I L-word this well written adaptation of a graphic novel, turned screen play, turned formal novel! It has everything a man could want in an entertainingly inspiring novel, and more than just sleuth work and violence. The well-read main character "V" with a tortured past and a superhero willpower forges the coolest renascence-man character with a ting-of-revenge and turns it calculatingly full force against "The Man." V still finds time to rescue a damsel in distress, train truth and dignity over fear, preach discipline, display appreciation for the greatness of western culture, and inspire a nation with a grand intersecting crescendo! There is excitement sprinkled throughout always soon accompanied by philosophical, political, or character-building pearls of wisdom.
The "Bad Guys" here are flat but their historically redundant real-life comparables are not far from the imagination. The Bad Guys are readily apparent by their clear one dimensional agenda, absolute power. Students of even the most elementary historical study can pick these people out instantly from our plethora of tyrants, but can you see them calculate and grow in your own lifetime? V's conclusive dialogs are always cut to the core and thus states it best to his oppressed countrymen:
- "And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. ”
This is a fictional novel of contemplative inspiration. What I enjoyed most from this novel is Vs charismatic embrace of western culture, forging a self educated giant within himself, and unapologetically imposing his presence for good. The BEST superhero character ever conjured up by man. Hence the multiple adaptations, and this novel being the best of which. We can all learn about ourselves if we listen close enough to our souls while we engage in the tough fundamental questions presented here. How can an eccentric and impracticable heroic journey teach and inspire us? Honest self-inquiry:
- “Artists use lies to tell the truth. Yes, I created a lie. But because you believed it, you found something true about yourself.”
P.S: V ...I love u <3
Remember remember the fifth of November Gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder, treason Should ever be forgot...
A beautifully written novelization of a beautifully themed graphic novel and film. A story for all-time, rich in language, scope, and emotion. Well done!
First of all, this is not the original to the movie, this was written after the Wachowski sisters’ script. If you are after the original material then the comics are what you are looking for. I was slightly let down by this one. It had its moments though and you could sense its desire to be 1984 but ultimately coming up short (tall order of course). The politics are interesting but there are some things in the plot that didn’t fully make sense to the point that they bothered me a little. But still a good story and some refreshing political rhetoric.
"The truth is so vicious and furious... it's like a world full of poems... even politicians are an examples of sarcasm... joke and laugh... how far can this work get?"
"Poems, one moment they were dragic.... now they are so peaceful... so powerful..."
"So sad movie ....
1:18:43.... a sad story after another and another and another...."
t"1:27:15"
t"1:43:28
...
Chaos...chaos...chaos...chaos...chaos... that's what "V" wants...
..."
- So far as last thoughts, such killer you haven't saw from very long time or you have never saw such... time doesn't matter what matters is how this guy works.
Saw the movie years ago before I'd ever even been to the UK. I enjoyed it back then, but at the time, I didn't really know who Guy Fawkes was or what he means to the British. Now that I've been working for a British company for the last 15 years, I'm a bit more culturally attuned.
Crossing fingers the US will be in relative peace and stability, even under MAGA, but in my fantasies, I have to admit that I sometimes think it would be so much better to go scorched earth like V and Evey. I realize it's weird that books like this would be beacons of hope for me, but some days, living in this country feels that bleak.
Books are being actively banned, burned, and rewritten in the US. So I'm trying to read as many of these banned books as soon as I can before access is completely eliminated or unrecognizably altered. This book, as well as the Alan Moore graphic novel, are on the banned list.
What a solid story! This should be mandatory reading in high school. The writing isn't superb, but the story really makes up for it! I wish it would have been a bit more involved and 100-200 pages longer, but it is an adaption and it does what it does really well. It's just a beautiful story!
Steve Moore did a great job with novelizing V for Vendetta. A good novelization keeps the speed of the movie while also building out more details the movie didn't have time for. This book did a great job of it.
