It's a good story overall, and I enjoyed it, but for me personally, there was a lot lacking. There were details where I didn't need details and lack of details where I did want a bit more detail (not from lack of understanding as much as from bringing the surroundings to life more). If you are a fan of adventure and globe trotting stories, this would be a good story to check out.

When Rachel's father dies under suspicious circumstances, he leaves his daughter clues to a decades-old secret: the Amber Room, a treasure that was appropriated by the Nazis when they invaded the Soviet Union. Now, to find out why her father died, and who's responsible, Rachel (with her ex-husband, Paul) heads off to Germany, where she hopes to find the truth about the Amber Room.

This was my first time reading a book by Steve Berry and I found this was very interesting and hard to put down. I have Venetian Betrayal in my stash and look forward to reading it.

This is one of the Best Steve Berry Books written. Not a Cotton Malone book. According to the post notes, there was a lot of research done for this book and there are a lot of truths used.

I think that anyone would enjoy this story..

Quite dry and definitely written by a man. What fool would write that a woman gets punched in the face and then would moan with pleasure as she is being raped minutes later. Definitely not a Carly read.

This book was great. I have read all of his books and they are all good. I hope he keeps writing for a long time.

DNF'd at 118 pages in.

This man should have written a book devoid of any female characters at all, because there isn't a chapter that goes by that mentions one where the tone isn't disparaging, condescending, or a woman is rendered down to an object of sexual desire.

Given that I'm not the target audience and this novel is extremely dated, I tried to give it a bit of leeway in this regard, because I do have appreciation for how we can't always judge a book through today's political lens.

However, couple this with the fact that we're 1/3rd of the way through the book and we've only just now gotten to the end of introducing player after player after player in some grand scheme, I'm not confident in his ability to write an engaging tale.

The extensive history of the Amber Room itself was interesting, but infodumping it all in the beginning made the start of this book so dry.

Suitable only as the kind of desperate paperback you might pick up in the absence of literally anything better to do.

I really enjoy this kind of book! A treasure hunting is always something exciting! Specially when the treasure is something real and misterious like The Amber room. Is not the first time I hear about The Amber Room, after starting this book I couldn't help but to look for some update information. The truth is, this Room had never being found, to the point that it had to be recrated based in photographs. Is amazing how something so big can just vanish.
As the story goes, you can almost guess where the Room is, or with whom, or maybe not. Still the same, is just fun to read this cat-hunting-mice kind of adventure. I wonder if there is a movie base on this book. I think it will be something interesting to watch.
Some people compares Steve Berry to Dan Brown. But like someone else said, he is so much better!!

Not my usual fare. Got this in on of the little free libraries around here in the neighborhood. It reminded me of Dan Brown's De vinci code. Only this was stolen art from World War !!. A judge and her x husband get involved in a lost art treasure due to her father's sudden death, and information he let behind.
