Rudy Baylor is on the cusp of graduating from law school. In his final semester, he is required to give free legal advice to a group of senior citizens. Dot and Buddy Black are his first clients. Their son, Donny Ray, is dying of leukemia, and their insurance company has flatly refused to pay for his medical treatments. Rudy quickly realizes the Black's have been mistreated. As he digs deeper, he is shocked to discover that the company as not only screwed the Blacks, but possibly is committing the largest insurance fraud ever seen. Rudy, broke and still trying to pass the bar, is going to have to find the strength and courage to take on powerful attorneys and company in America. I loved this book. It is the little man taking on the big man for his fellow humans. There is good humor throughout the book, I really enjoyed. Excellent book.

Reread on audio and enjoyed this more than the first read so bumping up a star.

It took me almost 5 months to finish It.

The thing is that I wasn't into reading until a couple of weeks and, well, time kept passing.

This book is about its main character, the story is good but not amazing. That's why Rudy was the only thing that mattered. He was the center of the attention, even though a case against a big company was on the table.

He felt real, human, you could connect with him and that's why I enjoyed the book.

I'm not giving it the 5 starts just because I didn't like the final pages.

Tenía (y confieso que no sé si lo he superado del todo) un prejuicio gigantesco con Grisham. Veía que tenía tantos libros publicados, y todos con nombres relacionados con el mundo del derecho, que se me metió en la cabeza la idea de que tenían que ser todos iguales, así que me negué a leerlo. Había leído solo uno, pero fue hace tanto tiempo, que no me acuerdo del nombre ni de la trama, así que no puedo hacer ninguna comparación con sus otros libros.

Cuando vi la película, sin embargo, no pude evitar agregar este libro a mi lista de libros por leer, y no me arrepiento. A pesar de saber el final, me entretuve y emocioné mucho, y hasta saqué un par de lecciones para la vida como abogada, cosas por las que agradezco haberlo leído en esta etapa de mi vida, en la que tengo dos hijos y mucho contacto con el ejercicio del derecho.

No fue suficiente, eso sí, para decidir seguir leyendo libros de Grisham, pero supongo que podemos ir por partes...

im just a highskooler, so i couldnt really understand what the book was saying, but i got a general idea. this book is about a young man named rudy that is a struggling lawyer, but his life turns 360 degrees after he wins this case or something. its about a quiet adventure to the road of success. whoever reads this should feel touched at his will and drive. the fact that he neva gave up at the hardest times, and his determination to make it. i could go on and on, but i guess i got the general idea~ this book is great!!

there was a copy lying around the house during my elementary days (or was it already high school).
i was initially apprehensive of reading this because i was concerned i might not comprehend the jargon (of lawyers, the courtroom, and the justice system--of the usa, no less), but my ma encouraged me to, arguing that the jargon i was afraid of was non-existent in this book.

أعجبتني الرواية كثيرا ... في البداية كنت أفكر أنها مملة وكنت اتابع القراءة فقط إكراما لأحمد خالد تفيق ثم جاءت لحظة كانت هي بداية الإثارة وهي بداية التقاضي في قضية دوني راي وهي اللحظات التي جذبتني للرواية ولم اتركها إلا بسبب اختفاء نسختي الورقية بفعل أحد أبنائي لبعض الوقت

والمضحك أنني من عنوان الرواية ورسمة الغلاف ولأنني لم أربط بين كاتبها وبين الفيلمين الذين دارت أحداثهما في عوالم القانون والشركات، اعتقدت أنها رواية عن الهنود الحمر

التجربة الأولى مع جريشام وقد أقرأ له بلغته الأصلية وهي الإنجليزية

I was obsessed with John Grisham novels when I was a preteen. I got sucked into these novels and dreamed of becoming a hotshot trial lawyer myself. I eventually found my way into social work, but I am still a sucker for a good legal thriller. This book is technically a re-read for me and it was everything I expected: a well-paced and satisfying read, albeit heavy on coincidences and lucky breaks for our hero. And who would have guessed that Grisham's critique of giant health insurance corporations would still ring so true today?

My only complaint is that I hated the narrator for the audio book. He made Rudy sound gruff and sarcastic, whereas I prefer to think of him as being closer to Matt Damon's interpretation in the movie.

Oh, and having previously worked in a domestic violence shelter, I found Rudy's pursuit of Kelly to be kind of inappropriate and skeezy. I think their romance is a stretch.

Grisham at his average level, which means quite a lot for many other writers. Interesting, alert, easy to read. Some facts are hardly believable, including the way to chose the jury. Quite a strange final, too much money transforming into nothing at all but some glory, a murder and Rudy's choice to quit his career, in search for remote places. The title...

No es una de mis novelas favoritas de Grisham ni una de las que me gustaron menos. Juicios, compañías de seguros, un protagonista con el que se empatiza y una buena adaptación cinematográfica.

اول قراءاتى للعبقرى جون جريشام
كنت بدءت القراءة ببطء بسبب احداث بداية الرواية وتركتها فترة طويلة بسبب شعورى ببعض الملل فى صفحاتها الاولى
ثم عدت اليها بداية اليوم و عندما عدت لقراءتها وبدءت الاحداث تتصاعد تدريجيا حتى اننى لم اتركها حتى كنت انهيتها
وربما لاننى لست من محبى روايات المحاكم والقضايا كنت احس بملل فى بدايتها وربما بسبب بدء الرواية برتم بطىء لكن بعد انهائها ربما تغير تلك الرواية نظرتى لهذا النوع من الروايات
الغريب اننى قبل ان ابدء فى قراءتها او قراءة المقدة عن الكاتب كنت اعتقد انها رواية خيال علمى او مغامرات فى الغابات من اسمها الغريب
لكنى اكتشفت من احداث الرواية ان معناه المحامى الذى يستطيع الحصول على موكلين او تعويضات يجنى من ورائها و من ورائهم الاموال الكثيرة كالمطر
الرواية جيدة وان عابها البطىء فى البداية لكن الاحداث تتسارع مع تقدم الافصول وبدء اجراءات المحاكمة فى القضية التى يرفعها البطل على شركة التأمين
لكنى لم تعجبنى النهاية كثيرا فاعتقد انها حالمة جدا ولا تناسب احداث الرواية
لكن هذا لا ينتى اعجبت بالرواية جدا و من افضل اعداد السلسلة و ايضا الترجمة مميزة و مقدمة المترجم عن الكاتب رغم قصرها مميزة جدا
