If you are a fan of Scrooge this is definitely a must read. Entertaining and funny with a mingle of historical references. Scrooge's and Goldie's love story broke my heart!

I love Don Rosa and his stories!
While these might not be part of the “original” idea about “Life and times of Scrooge McDuck”, this is an exactly just as great collection of stories!
Do yourself a favor and read them both, when in need of some epic duck-adventures.

I think its the best comics i ever read. The narrative, the story, the sentiment. Everything.
This and the main book of course.

Loistava aloitus lukuvuodelle.

Amazingly funny. I first read it in Italian when I was a child, then recently re-read it in the original version.

Scrooge McDuck is just too much! One of my top favourite Disney characters!

The book is terrific fun, balancing humor, adventure, romance and history to make an entertaining blend. Rosa's commentary is very enlightening, to see the research into actual history and Duck history. There are plenty of gags, most genuinely funny, but the adventure never feels compromised. And the character moments - mostly between Scrooge and Glittering Goldie - but also with Donald and more are great.

Highly recommended book for fans of fun-loving adventure!

The beauty of this book is that it enhances Rosa's "L&ToSMcD" story with additional chapters, but you don't need to read this to fully appreciate the earlier book, nor do you need to have read that to enjoy this book. It's a Companion in every sense of the word.

But you really should read both. Good stuff abounds, and one of the supplemental chapters included here, IIRC called "The Prisoner of White Agony Creek," is probably the best story of the entire cycle.

I really like Scrooge McDuck. Don Rosa is a little goofy, but that's okay.

The second volume of Scrooge McDuck's life compiles the "in between" chapters of his life that weren't part of the main narrative in the first volume.

So this is just a series of interesting and often times poignant stories that didn't quite fit into the first volume. And while the first volume definitely feels more structured than this one, the second volume, in my opinion, feels more adventurous and sometimes more memorable. I don't know if its the fact that these tales can be read out of order so they are self contained narratives, or the fact they are just fun trips with Scrooge, but this volume really felt much more loose and at the same time, had some emotional moments that really leave you thinking about them after you put the book down. However, I would say that those emotional moments are built off of the foundation of the first volume, so really, these two volumes are companions to one another.

The stories themselves are great. They often refer back to the first volume, but elaborate or continue the stories. We also have a couple of stories that close some of the loose ends from the first volume as well. Hell, there's even a dream story that has Scrooge ending up with Goldie, his secret dream of all dreams. There are moments like that, where the sincerity and emotion of the tales being told really shine through. The love that Don Rosa has for these characters, really emanates from the pages. So when Scrooge stops by his mother an fathers gravestones for a quiet moment (like in volume 1), it really resonates. Scrooge making up with his sister was another highlight, but my personal favorite, was finding and reading the letter that Scrooge's father left for him, in the most secret of secret locations... really touching.

Overall, if you are a fan of the comics medium, I highly recommend this. It is a master class in story telling and narrative structure, and its a guide book to tell an amazingly detailed and interesting story, without losing the charm or sentiment in order to do so. Highly recommended for fans of all things Duck related as well as fans of Comic book classics.
