Women Who Love Books Too Much: Bibliophiles, Bluestockings & Prolific Pens from the Algonquin Ho

Move over wild women and women who do too With this irreverent tribute, author Brenda Knight casts a lovingly arch eye at the women who have devoted their lives to books. From Sylvia Beach and other booksellers to librarians, editors, writers, bibliophiles, and celebrated book clubs, Knight takes readers on a ribald ride through the pages of history. Chapter titles include "Prolific Pens" (such as Joyce Carol Oates, author of over 100 books); "Mystics, Memoirists and Madwomen"; "Salons and Neosalons"; "Ink in Their Veins" (literary dynasties); and the titillating "Banned, Blacklisted, and Arrested."

Easy to read in small doses, which works for me these days. The book discussed some interesting women that I was not that familiar with, but there was a rather glaring error mixing up the plots of Pride & Prejudice and Sense & Sensibility in the Jane Austen bio that I'm surprised a "woman who loves books too much" would make.

Interesting survey of the reading preferences of famous women in history.

Mini-bios and bits of poetry and prose from some of the best women authors. This gave me more books to add to my list.

Okay read.. She seemed to focus on women who were really liberal. I really didn't want to know who was in love with whom.... Good long list of people though. I wish the author would have mentioned why she chose these specifically or included longer list of titles the women authored.

It was pretty amusing and has reminded me of authors I should check out. She gets some facts wrong, but on the whole, interesting.
