Adorei.

I give this 3.5 stars, rounded up. As most of the reviewers have said, this too follows 'The Ken Follett formula'. And I like this formula

Set in the second half of the 19th century, A Dangerous Fortune follows the fortunes of several members of a family of prominent English bankers, the Pilasters, and those surrrounding them over a period of 26 years. Filled with intrigue, reversals of fortune, love, murder and a diverse and fascinating cast of characters, this suspenseful historical novel has me hooked from beginning to end.

***Attention! This review contains spoilers. So, don't read it unless you finished the book***

This book, what to say about this book? I absolutely love all Ken Follett’s book, he is genius.
Dangerous Fortune is not typical Follett’s book, set in 19th century , story follows the fortunes of famous and rich family Pilaster. At the beginning I thought it will be criminal book or something like that, I didn’t expect so much drama, romance and malice (all in good way).
First, my favorite character was Micky, I love that kind of smart and astute guys who knows how to care to themselves and passion between him and Augusta was really interesting. Unfortunately Micky showed that he was enormous evil, but at some way I was really sad when Augusta killed him.
Hugh is good character, I love that he is so careful to others and he loves Maisie for so long. They are meant to be together.
After reading Follett’s books I’m always so sad and want more. I give this book 5 stars because it has everything that book should have in one place and I really enjoy reading it. Way to go Follett

This was actually a second read for me, though I didn't realize it until maybe 75 pages in.

Very characteristic of Follett's writing - multiple perspectives, cunning villains, a seemingly hopeless route for the protagonists and victory at the end. I love his ability to tell a story, so much so that even though I remembered the outcome, I was still happy to be along for the ride.

My bestie’s mum gave me this book as she is a huge Ken Follett fan. Well, I adored this book. Although it a tome, it really was great to read about a female villain and the strong weave of characters . Now I have to see if she has any other Follett books I can borrow.

Nechápem, prečo som to vlastne na konci leta odložila, lebo včera večer som zvyšok zhltla na posedenie.
Je to Follett, je tam duch doby, postavy naprieč celým spektrom spoločnosti, intrigy, boj o moc a peniaze, sexuálny podtón, zločiny i klasická anglická česť, pozlátko vysokej spoločnosti aj jej skazenosť v plnej škaredosti pod povrchom.
Všetko, čo ste čakali od Pilierov moci, ale napriek tomu by ste nemali byť sklamaní, pretože Follett to opäť zmajstroval úžasne.

Ken Follett sure knows how to tell a story, and he oozes character development skill. I got to know every character in the title well, for better or for worse. There were manipulators, the manipulated, the highborn, the lower class, and everything in between. I was eager to discover what these people would do next, and who they would do it to.

As a period piece, I cannot vouch for its authenticity (since I'm not an expert on London and South America in the late 1800s), but I can tell you that it didn't matter: it felt completely accurate. I was transported, and happy to be there.

The backbone of the book revolves around the banking profession, and while this holds zero interest for me, this didn't matter either. Follett can make weed pulling a fascinating profession as far as I'm concerned. Plus, I respect an author that isn't afraid to  kill off characters to better develop the plot. .

After page 400-something, this book took on a stronger soap-opera feel. This normally would have detracted from its rating, but I figure if I want to read a book enough that I can get through a 568 pager in 5 days, that can counteract the extra drama. It still did elicit some private eye-rolling towards the end, but I never wanted to put it down. Nice work!
