I remember why the twos (occasionally threes) are sometimes difficult...what if...what if...what if... Then the Mama in this story ends with, "Merry Christmas, my Stinky Face." Hmmmmm... 2 stars.

I always loved I love you, stinky face. In my opinion, this wasn't as great as the original but I loved the holiday twist to it. I loved the difference in font between the narrators. The style of the words was fancy and curled for Stinky Face and when Mama spoke the words were in a less fancy font. When I was reading this book it reminded me of the traditions that my family and I participate in during the holidays. Stinky Face is always very curious which reminded me of my nieces and nephews because they always ask a million questions about everything around us. Overall this was a cute read.

SUMMARY: "What if Santa's lips get chapped?" Stinky Face asks. "What if the sack of toys starts to rip?"
As always, Mama lovingly addresses each and every one of her child's concerns. Of course, Stinky Face leaves Santa lip balm and duct tape . . . just in case.

ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations are colorful and fun, but not as rich and eye catching for children as the first book. Many of the pages are very busy with unnecessary background junk.

THE GOOD: Stinky Face, as lovingly called by his/her (could be a boy or a girl as illustrated) mother is up to the same tricks with question after question. But this time the questions are about what might happen on Christmas Eve. Mother has a creative answer for everything.
THE NOT AS GOOD: First, I must say that, after reading some reviews, I went back and read the first Stinky face book before reading this one again. I am glad I did. Otherwise I would have NO idea where the title "Stinky Face" comes from. If you are a Stinky Face fan, this book may disappoint you as it doesn't live up to the first book.

But if you've never read Stinky Face before, it is simply a cute book about a child who has a lot of "What if" questions and the mother who lovingly and creatively answers them all. 4 stars instead of 3 for the creativity and fun.

AGE RECOMMENDATION: Ages 4-8

With all of the things I constantly worry about and my ability to come up with even more anxieties, I can totally relate to the little boy in this cute holiday picture book. The little boy and his mom are getting ready for Christmas and he’s asking all sorts of “what if” questions. His mom responds to each one with a fun, reassuring answer. This would be a sweet story time book to share and would even be a good mentor text to help young writers come up with their own “what if” stories.

It is a nice book Christmas book. In this book one boy imagines how the Christmas tree goes away, how the snowman melt and then frozen, and how he meets Santa.

I read this book tonight with two of my younger brothers, because our goal is to read a Christmas book every day this month until Christmas, or every day this month! I love these books, the Stinky Face books, and have loved them since I was in elementary school!!!
