I will give this book no star rating.
この本をアパートのゴミ捨て場で見つけました。とてもシンプルなので、日本語で読もうと思った。本当に簡単だから日本語の練習に役に立っていた.
So, yes, if you find a Japanese version in a dumpster and you think it will help you practice Japanese go for it!
It could be good for adult education too.
I could see someone with limited literacy who is taking a night class in business gaining a lot from this book, even if its oversimplified take on change may be harmful. People in hard luck environments sometimes need super simple stories. I've taught this population of students before and getting them to read anything is a challenge.
Though again, the super simplicity of it could be harmful.
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" -- a fantastic five-star book that addresses the philosophical reality of change much more elegantly -- had "Mostly Harmless" stamped on the cover.
What should be stamped on this book's cover?
*Read at Your Own Risk!
*May be hazardous to philosophical and emotional well-being.
ほとんど無害だとは言えないけれど、それはタバコよりも大分に害が少ないと言える.
I can't say it's mostly harmless, but it is substantially less harmful than tobacco.
In short,
1. Don't have anyone read this book as a replacement for a substantial book on any topic.
2. If you need a book about change, read "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".
3. But perhaps (75/25) it is better for learners who would usually read no book at all.
4. I dare you to read this book side by side with "The Grapes of Wrath" and not hate this book. Spoiler alert, the little people in Steinbeck's novel never find the cheese.
5. No one should ever have to accept this book as a substitute for a coherent explanation for why they are being fired.
6. And, it is certainly less harmful than tobacco.
