Noah Gordon is definitely one of my favorite authors. He might not always write about interesting topics, but I enjoy going through his stories just for the sake of enjoying his writing and characters. The Rabbi itself isn't a story that will turn your world upside, especially if you are not part of this specific religion, but it is still interesting to read and let yourself carried by the characters.
I'm still debating with the end. I felt that there was no real conflict or high point in the story. Still, the ending was convincing and peaceful. I wished though there had been many more problems at stake but it was still an enjoyable read.

Muy bueno, como el resto de libros de Noah Gordon. SI te gustó El médico, te gustará.

I reread this on hearing of the author's, Noah Gordon's, recent death. I wondered how, after some 25 years, it would hold up. Surprisingly, I enjoyed and appreciated it as much if not more than when I first read it in junior high. While the story is a bit dated, and the state of the American rabbinate and the Jewish community has changed quite a bit, there was much I could recognize and identify with. And the quality of the writing and story-telling surpasses my memory. Having read and enjoyed some of Gordon's later novels, I have to say that he started off very strong and maintained the quality of his work to the end.

This did an excellent deep dive into Jewish culture during the 20th century. The story had highs and lows but was still a good read.
