R.J.s Geschichte gefiel mir besser als Shamans und auch irgendwie besser als die von Rob. Eine starke Frau, die ihren Weg geht und zu sich selbst findet. Auch wenn es sich nach 50 Seiten schon einmal wie ein Ende anfühlte. Es kam auch noch Drama zwischendurch, das ich nicht gebraucht hätte, die Aufarbeitung war dann wieder okay. Aber leider hat das Ende mir das Buch ein bisschen verleidet. R.J. schien sich gerade gefunden zu haben und dann schmeißt ein Ereignis ( also die Schwangerschaft ) alles nochmal um und es wird deutlich gemacht, dass sie dadurch erst richtig zu sich findet. Weil eine Frau ja nur so Erfüllung finden kann? Normalerweise macht es mir ja nicht direkt was aus, wenn diese Wendung noch kommt, aber hier ging es mir echt quer.

Definitely not as interesting or engaging as the first two. The author is not adept at managing female characters, and the societal issues that are so quaint when hundreds of years old simply become preachy when they're current.
Not terrible at all, but definitely not in the same league as The Physician or Shaman.

Aš nesu didelė knygų serijų gerbėja, bet turiu savo mėgstamas knygų serijas: Hario Poterio knygos, Saulėlydžio saga :) ne išimtis ir šio autoriaus Koulų šeimos saga.

Trys istorijos prasidėjusios XI a. Anglijoje, nusikėlusios į XIX a. Pilietinio karo Ameriką ir pasiekusios šias dienas.
Su neaprašomu malonumu skaičiau pirmąją trilogijos dalį - "Gydytojas. Avicenos mokinys", antroji - "Šamanas" man taip pat labai patiko, o dabar noriu pasidalinti mintimis apie šią knygą.

Girdėjau nuomonių, kad ji pati silniausia ir neįdomiausia. O čia jau kaip pažiūrėsi. Taip, nuotykių ir kitų kultūrų šioje knygoje nėra, bet kiek joje telpa šių dienų skaudulių.

Noah Gordon pasakodamas daktarės Robertos Dž. Koul arba tiesiog Erdžės istoriją nevengia skaudžių ir labai aktualių temų: moterų lygybė profesinėje srityje, moters teisė į savo kūną ir netgi abortų klausimas. Galimybė gauti tinkamą medicininę pagalbą, kad ir ką nuspręs pati moteris. Skaitydama šią knygą, supratau, kad toks dalykas, kaip sveikatos draudimas ne visiems yra prieinamas dalykas.

Ir kartu tai didžiulė vienos brandžios, protingos, talentingos ir empatiškos moters odė meilei, šeimai, savo pašaukimui, kuris atsiskleidžia ir pražysta tada, kai mažiausiai tikiesi ir pačioje keisčiausioje vietoje.

Mane sužavėjo būtent tai, kaip lengvai aš perskaičiau šią knygą :) su dideliu malonumu ir norėjosi dar ir dar :) gailai, kad Koulų šeimos saga pasibaige... bus sunku surasti naują trilogiją :)

Rekomenduoju visiems, kam patiko šio autoriaus knygos. Taip pat tiems, kurie tiesiog nori gero laiko su knyga :) Kam patinka geros, įtraukiančios istorijos, būtinai perskaitykite:) Dar viena įdomi detalė - autorius apie daktarų Koulų šeimą rašė ir kūrė 13 savo gyvenimo metų.

Įdomu, kiek daktarų skaitė šią trilogiją ? Ar patiko? :)

Not as good as the first two books in this trilogy, but still a decent read. Perhaps the fact that it takes place in the present day might account for my not enjoying it as much, since reading about times past adds to my enjoyment. At any rate, I will read more Noah Gordon for sure.

El medico es un libro maravilloso, que muestra de manera impecable el mundo de la medicina en la epoca de la peste negra, el chaman tiene buen desarrollo y aprendes mucho de la epoca de la guerra civil estadounidense y convivis un poco con los aborigenes de la region. En este libro siento que no hay mucho de aquella magia que no se recorren las generaciones Cole de manera satisfactoria y no hay nada epico ni de misticismo de la epoca moderna que quiere reflejar. Solo es un relato normal, bien armado, te tiene interesado pero no llega al nivel que sientes al leerlo con respecto a los otros libros de la trilogia.
Toca un tema en especial muy controversial con respecto a la medicina pero solo lo enfoca muy sesgado, con todo lo que ya has escuchado no aporta nada nuevo, no siento que aprendi mas, solo veo que colabora a la dicotomia de una manera agresiva y no busca el consenso, ni enseñar bien los puntos de vista.
Me gustaron muchos aspectos como el de el amar la profesion y buscar aquel lugar donde uno esta desarollandolo mas por amor a ella que por solo el dinero, el crecimiento de una mujer fuerte con sus convicciones serias.
Para mi es un 6.

Como si el orden de llegada coincidiera con mi gusto literario, La doctora Cole se queda unas cuantas cabezas por detrás de sus predecesores El médico y Chamán.

El autor pone encima de la mesa el debate sobre el aborto, pero el envite se queda quizá un poco corto.

De todos modos, se lee fácil y merece vivir en nuestras bibliotecas.

After the first two in the series, this was a huge disappointment. This book is set in modern day, and lost all of the power of the previous two, which were historical fiction. Not to mention that this is the only book in the series with a female protagonist - and instead of gracing her with the import of the lead characters, this book almost read more like a romance novel! All martial spats and traumatic new loves. If I didn't know otherwise, I would never have believed It was the same author.

The writing was still interesting enough to keep me turning the page, but I was ready to be done with this one.

Todas las aventuras de esta familia de médicos están marcadas por los riesgos y las emociones de las diferentes épocas en las que se desarrollan y que son fielmente descritas por el autor permitiendo que el lector se sumerja vívidamente en muchos de sus aspectos: situaciones médicas, arquitectónicas, culinarias, económicas, conflictos bélicos y encrucijadas ético/morales. Hay que leerlas.

I was expecting more, having read the first two books in the series and loving them. This book seemed to lack the same heart of the others in the series. I can only surmise this is because the author does not understand a woman's true motivations. The first two books followed the lives of male doctors and I felt he did a much more creditable job painting their lives.

This was totally different than Noah Gordon's first two in the series. That, I'm afraid, made it hard to get into, as I loved the history in the two earlier books. I also felt that this book focused too much on politics of the day, abortion clinics, health care problems in modern times. I suppose it was just too real to life for me to really enjoy it. Thus, the 3 stars. And I almost didn't finish it, so I guess I liked it enough to find out what happened.

This is the third book in the Cole medical dynasty series. This book was in the present day about a woman doctor in the Cole line. She becomes a country doctor. Abortion was an issue. It explained my feelings well.

A lo mejor como libro aislado no tendría una calificación tan baja, pero siendo el cierre de la magnífica trilogía de la Familia Cole queda muy deslucido. No sé si Noah Gordon sólo sabe escribir magníficas historias si las ambienta en el pasado o que la protagonista de este tercer libro no tiene el carisma o la capacidad de pegarte a las páginas sin que puedas despegarte de ellas como sí tenían los personajes de El Médico y Chamán.
Entretenida, una vuelta de tuerca más y un canto más a que tu destino puede estar esperándote donde menos te lo esperas que un libro con la verdadera fuerza de los históricos Cole.

Sí que me gustó que mantuvieran el instrumental del primer Cole.

It may have worked if this book wasn't the end of the Cole Family. The main character doesn't have the necessary strong to guide the action and I prefer Gordon stories setled in the past rather in the present time.
Anyway, it's interesting to read. Interesting but not amazing.
