Listened to this one, probably a bad choice. The narrator was all”tough guy “. Reading it, I could have put a different sound to the story. The story itself was a good one—actually there were parallel stories, one involving Butch and dirty cops, politicians and stock traders; the other involving fiancé, Marleen and a rapist. Much of the writing seemed trite, and corny.
Okay, probably rounded up on this one. Weakly recommend.

Ahhh, Scott Turow...

You just never disappoint. Every book has a solid cast of characters, twists and turns you don’t expect, and a good, solid story. Looking forward to the next one!

Very entertaining. All the characters had flaws but I liked them anyway. Especially Arthur Raven, the attorney assigned to assist a death row innmate with his last appeal. Arthur was a great lawyer but bumbled with the ladies - until he met an ex-heroin addict judge.

I’m not a lawyer, so maybe this novel is accurate in its legal arguments, but I have my doubts. Anyway, basically this is a season of L.A. Law with a Wrongfully accused man on Death Row along with lawyers, judges, cops all falling in and out of love and in and out of bed. 569 pages! Easily could’ve been hacked down to 400 and not hurt the story... which has been done to death anyway (no pun intended).

This one sat on my shelf for years because I figured I knew what it was and I was right. Fans of courtroom procedurals might enjoy it more, but it is just another “man on Death Row” story that was so popular at the turn of the century. No big surprises or twists. Oh, and I really didn’t need so many glimpses into Scott Turow’s sexual fantasies. Creepy, dude. Ending also kind of ruins the climax and leaves the reader shaking their head.
