I do love Augusten Burroughs and I did end up liking this book, even though I listened to it and was not moved it was a female reader. However, she ended up doing great character voices and helping deliver Burroughs biting comedic stab at advertising on television. This is his first…only??? Work of fiction and it kept me on my toes with all the interweaving stories of flawed characters and spinning stories of everyday bullshit. Would recommend for a casual enjoyable read

* Received this book in exchange for my review *

Take a everyday job, add a twist of humor, a wardrobe malfunction and tumble up to the next level of success.

Noah gave me this book for my birthday.

I loved this book, it’s honestly the first one I read for pleasure (and not for school) in a while.

Easy read, just the right amount of plot lines, interesting characters, deals with contemporary issues like shopping addiction and “influencers” in a funny way.

Great insight into TV shopping channels...

Something I never realised I was ever going to be interested in but there you go, Burroughs has the ability to pull off a great page turner on just about anything due to is unique perspective on life.
Really enjoyed reading all his books so far. His view on life is not dissimilar to David Safaris. Another great comic writer.

It was a complete mess in the funnest ways. I wanted to give it a 3 for being mid but This story took me on a journey. Lacking a star for some immaturity and insensitivity for marginalized groups. We know from his other books that Burroughs is fat-phobic, elitist, and racist. But gained a star for being outlandish and a silly read. Definitely a sign of the times as it came out in 2000!

As a huge Augusten Burroughs fan who read his autobiographical work first, I was wildly impressed with "Sellevision." This man is a literary genius.

Freaking hilarious!! Each character was fantastic. The writing was great! I want more about this wacky crew! Why was this not made into a movie?

Many twists and turns. Loved how the book tried to tie up all of the characters’ fates. Wish we saw more of Leigh and Max friendship. Overall, a fun humorous story about a money hungry network with an interesting cast. My only real major gripe with the book, would be that I wished it delve into a bit more into Bebe’s shopping addiction and Trish’s character felt a bit more like an afterthought. John and Nikki can only be described as disturbing. Their storyline rubbed me the wrong way and the descriptions of their weird sexual encounters felt out of place and unnecessary. The ending wasn’t particularly my favorite of the book. Anyways, still a very interesting read that doesn’t take itself very seriously!!!!

This is a satire of the American TV home shopping channels and the overall tone of the book really captures the home shopping culture and how things are portrayed on screen. I had never really watched the shopping channels before and halfway through the book I went and watched one and it was EXACTLY as depicted in the novel. I got the audio book and the narrator captured the accents, voices and intonations just right. It really brought the characters to life for me and gave the book a whole new dimension. The author has a wicked sense of humor and he is very cutting with no mercy for his characters who are portrayed as shallow and materialistic. I enjoyed the book and would read (or listen) to more by this author.
