Honestly, though Miller uses beautiful language, his 300+ pages of cravings for the words to come out on a work of literature of his own was very tiresome to me. I can not say it is not good. I found the semi-autobiography to be very interesting indeed. However the repetitions (not of phrases, of the feelings he tries to put into words) and the over self-centeredness you fell about him make the book a hard one to read.

"Do you know what's the matter with me? I'm a chameleon. Every author I fall in love with I want to imitate.. if only I could imitate my self!"

OK. Henry Miller was the real deal and I think I love him.

Not as good as the first two parts. I don't know why i hate Mona, the feeling was there when she first appeared, here it was clear Mona has a bad influence on Miller. Not only in his life but even when he writes about her.

Only three remarkable parts deserve to be mentioned:

- Trying to get a job at Hobson and Hotbein where he met Jim.
- His discussion about literature in ch.16.
- The last chapter.

If we didn't know what's happened to Miller in his first years in Paris we would be dying to read about it.

Nexus completes Miller's trilogy. At times, this book wanders a little. For the sake of completing the trilogy I powered through. Nexus definitely holds some gems that are worth finishing it to find.

it's always a pleasure to read some Miller although I do find I need some time away from him to really enjoy his work..so full of ideas and thoughts are his times that reading one Miller book following another is an activity I don't attempt these days.
There is mention in this book when a character is speaking to the writer herein as to whether a plot is needed and in some ways that sums up this book..there is a narrative as it's a tale of an odd love triangle and living by your wits but mostly it's an exercise in the sharing of thoughts and ideas.
I read book one and two some time back and barely recollect the plot and in time this will happen to this book as it is driven by discussion rather than anything else truth be told.
Sometimes a difficult read but always an interesting one.

Re-read, 01/2021: The Rosy Crucifixion remains among my favorite of Miller’s work. A retelling of his formative years, when he basically quit normal life, set out to become a writer, and did so despite all the misery his withdrawal from the workaday world caused him, these three books are Miller at his best. Nexus, in which he finally says goodbye to America, might be my favorite volume of the three.

as with each book in "the rosy crucifixion," and pretty much all of henry miller's work, this book is fantastic, well worth reading, and henry miller still pretty much owns your face.

Enjoyable! I liked it a little less than Sexus but more than Plexus (Plexus is great but 300 pages too long). This was leaner and still had plenty of nuggets.

Miller's racism is so confusing to me. He'll use terrible slurs or dehumanizing language on one page and then decry the treatment of black people on the next. He seems to champion the downtrodden and punch them in the face simultaneously. I don't give him a pass but I can understand a man who was born in 1891, who spent almost the entirety of his life in segregated America will have prejudices. His are just very contradictory so it makes it difficult to grasp. Maybe that's the point? Probably not.
