I love the RHCP and I love Flea, so I think I was expecting more creative process and introspection but this entire book is basically a rolodex of women he's dated and drugs he's taken, and I just don't care.

Anthony Kiedis was the 2nd "bad boy" I was ever in lust with - first it was Bon Jovi when I was in the first grade, and then Anthony Kiedis in the fourth grade. Still love them both! lol

This book was amazing, maybe not a literary feat, but the story itself was gripping. How many people can say they were introduced to drugs by their father and slept in the same bed with Cher as a young child and were babysat by Sonny Bono and dated Ione Skye and watched one of their best friends slip into a drugged and depressed abyss until he died (while you managed to get clean)?! Well, Kiedis can say it and he does in this book that takes an honest and hard look at the world of sex, drugs, and rock & roll and the prices you pay for that life. For so many musicians, and I think Kiedis is no exception, I think their books are a purging of their past and a chance to get through all their 12 steps and into a fresh life with a new direction.

Loved the book enough to hold onto it, despite several trips to the library used book sales and McKay's Used Books.

I picked this up years ago and then let it sit on my shelves collecting dust.
I probably should have left it there, covered in dust, slowly rotting away.
Though I am happy to be able to unhaul it.

This is 465 pages of Kiedis telling us what a stand up dude he is.
Except it is all about how awesome he is at getting chicks and doing drugs.
There is a little bit about the music, but that is really like 101 pages in the whole thing.
I am pissed I read the this and even more mad that I am wasting time on a review.
But if I can save one person from reading this, it will be worth it.
Save yourself the headache and put this back on the shelf, or better yet, in the garbage.

This book made me dislike Anthony Kiedis immensely. I found him more and more annoying as the book went on. This guy has a charmed life in so many respects and he totally just pisses it away. He doesn't learn anything during the whole book - he just keeps falling in love with the "love of his life" every few pages. If you want to read a great autobiography, check out the Motley Crue one "The Dirt"

Drugs are great, drugs are bad, girlfriend, rehab, make an album, tour album x 4…. With slight variation on each round.

lol. well, full disclosure. the chili peppers were my favorite band in 7th grade, no doubt influencing my musical selections for years to come. Recently, I had a bonding experience with a friend over our pubescent love of the band, and she sent me this book for my birthday. It took me about a year and a half to read, because i swore to myself that I'd only read it while i was taking a poop. This worked out very well, because the book is a series of crazy ass stories that never really go on for more than a page or two - just long enough for a movement. A couple hundred poops later, i'm finally done.

2 Stars for Scar Tissue (audiobook) by Anthony Kiedis read by Rider Strong.

I saw a interview with music producer Rick Rubin recently. In it he mentioned his time working with the Chili Peppers and he made it sounded really special time. Then I noticed that this autobiography was available and I thought it would be interesting to see what it was like working with Rick Rubin. Overall the stories were kind of disappointing. They didn’t seem have much depth to them. It just felt like Anthony Kiedis was looking for some sympathy or trying to spin things to look like he wasn’t such a narcissist. I can’t believe that he had someone else read his story. Maybe he could stay sober that long. What a disgrace.

A very self indulgent book that tells stories with little to no explanation. It's like reading a long string of facebook statuses where the only context is the fact that it's Anthony Kiedis. If it were written by anyone else it wouldn't have ever been noticed. The only reason I gave this book two stars instead of one is because of its broad vocabulary. It's a shame so many statements were made with no explanation or it could have been good.

If you want an easy read that requires absolutely no thought, and you are entertained by basic explanations of sex and drugs... Then this might work for you.

I had forgotten I had read this till someone just added it on their TBR list.
I honestly don't know how I had forgotten about this book when i absolutely LOVED every minute of it! I was already a HUGE fan of RHCP but now I love them! Especially Anthony, and to be able to listen to the words in their songs knowing what was happening to him while he wrote them just makes them more magical!
