James Patrick Keith was an American author and conspiracy theorist, best known for the books Black Helicopters Over America and The Octopus, co-written with Kenn Thomas, detailing theories around the death of reporter Danny Casolaro. After starting his career with writing and editing the zines Dharma Combat and Notes from the Hangar, as well as contributing articles to Fate Magazine, Keith became an editor at Steamshovel Press. He also authored 12 books covering topics such as mind control, the New World Order, black helicopters, the Oklahoma City bombing, Illuminati and Men in Black. Keith died at Washoe Medical Center in Reno at age 49, following a fall at the Burning Man festival.

Risible nonsense, interesting mainly because it lays out the theory which Keith was coyly hinting at in his other work but played down later in his career because it was a bit too cranky. Speaking of coyness, he very gently points readers at the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, so he gets the one-star rating that backdoor antisemites deserve. It’s a short read full of nice tidbits of his observations about UFOs and the complexities of how and why we view them as we do. It could be a hoax perpetuated by governments all over the world, as a form of mind control, or it may be real visitors from other galaxies. He doesn’t presume to know, but presents his case for many possibilities in a logical manner. Just a few of the people he discusses in the book: Philip K. Dick, Aleister Crowley, and Dr. Jose Delgado to name few. This is the first book I’ve read by him, so I’m not as critical perhaps, but the brevity and readable style make this a worthwhile read to start for sure.

The book is outdated because it talks about the Millenium Bug in one chapter, and overall I did not learn much that was new to me. I liked all the other books I have read by Keith, but this one goes stale about halfway in. Nazi UFOs, secret technology, etc., are covered so someone new to those thing might find it illuminating (pun intended).
