A short play by two of the funniest people. Whenever I read something by one of the Sedaris' I can't help but wonder what it would be like to be a part of that family. Or better yet...what it's like to be their parents.

Before there was the Book of Mormon, there was The Book of Liz. Liz is a member of the Squeamish sect, like the Amish, who value old timey ways. The Squeamish make most of their money on cheese balls that Liz makes. A new member wishes to take over the cheese ball business & the leader forces Liz to hand over her cheese ball recipe so she can go work in the fields or with the animals. She runs away from them, feeling like she is no longer needed. When people start complaining about the quality of the cheese balls, the Squeamish feel the pinch & want Liz back, thinking she did not give them the correct recipe.

In the meantime, Liz makes friends with Russians who have Cockney accents and she gets a job waitressing at a Country Kitchen of some sort. She thrives there.

I was expecting to be more enthusiastic about this play; David Sedaris is a brilliant writer, and Amy is both a talented writer and performer. When I envision Amy Sedaris in the title role, I can see how this would be entertaining on stage, but it doesn't read as well. This isn't abnormal; dramatic literature only truly comes alive on stage.

An ok play to read. Probably funnier when Amy delivered the lines. Still - who doesn’t want to be acknowledged and appreciated for their ingenuity and talents?? Thanks to The Talent Family.

I saw this performed as a play in college. I remember little else about it but do remember liking it.

Reads like an extended Monty Python sketch...and not one of the good ones.

Okay, technically I saw the play, but that's just like reading it in a more fun way.

I actually didn't read this, but I saw the play performed at local theatre. IT was good, but not as "David Sedaris" as expected. The play was about a woman from a cult-type religious compound deciding to leave and see what the rest of the world had to offer. The subject didn't really feel like anything else I have read by Sedaris, but it was an entertaining play nonetheless.

So funny - especially for those of us who know about the Amish. . .
