Wow, very insightful. Some sections were easy to read while others were very difficult. I just Thomas Moore is so intelligent that he loses me!I only read 75% of the book and then I found it repetitive, however, it is still good and I recommend the book.

Perhaps I should return to certain passages of this work all through my life to find new insight into myself. I have had a life long struggle with ideas I’ve seen to be polar opposites – religion & science and sensuality & intellect where Moore seems to view the facets of life as different qualities to feed the soul, not to be denied and all of value to the soul. The insight I found within these pages is vast, but one passage in particular on page 179 stuck with me. ‘Even intelligent, sophisticated people who don’t consider themselves moralistic often become drawn into moralisms in areas where they are emotionally vulnerable.’ That is exactly what I’ve been doing with my sister in sermonizing on her tendency to cling to a man just because she can’t face being alone. The subtitle of ‘honoring the mysteries of love and relationships’ is something I full intend to do.

There were parts that really spoke to me, and others that just went over my head. I'll add some favorite quotes later.

This book has captured the essence of my soul and soul mates like I had never thought of but have experienced. As mentioned in the chapter The Flight from Attachment it certainly is a mix of paradoxes - yet I get it and at times imagine I was Daphne.... but with different feelings and times of flights that I never thought I would be engaging in. Yet I did. Then the Magic and Alchemy of Marriage the family of soul intertwined...so very thought provoking and how true.

I absolutely love Moore's perspective on all things involving soul. I've read three of his books so far and each and every one takes me to a new level of thinking and understanding of the human soul. We are much more complex than we may imagine. There is beauty and design in all things favorable and unfavorable. I highly recommend this book. Four out of Five Gold Stars.

Brilliant writer bringing creativity and poetic understandings back into our everyday conceptions of relationships of all sorts, lovers to acquaintances. Gives soul and meaning to the important things we often forget.

Moore is so skilled at bringing in the concept of shadow without making it a negative, but a positive - an important acknowledgement that life IS messy, no matter how neat and tidy we try to make it in our comfortable Western culture. The corresponding shift in how we can approach relationships brings a richness and nuance to my attitude, and ultimately a higher potential for personal growth.

Moore writes better than most pop psychologists. In this book he focuses on relationships and learning to "see" another's soul. I enjoyed this.
