I liked this series a lot. Kurtz is so bad ass and hard boiled it hurts. hahaha. Kurtz just sinks deeper into trouble and what seems like a dead end with everyone after him and making more enemies each two chapters. I can't wait to start the last one in this series which is sitting in my backpack now.

Joe Kurtz is back for more murder, mayhem and mob massacres. A fun story from before Simmons got ridiculously pretentious.

A fun, fast read, re-visiting hard boiled fiction, simmons style. Not really anything new from the first book, just escapist fun. One or two coincidences/plot contrivances didn’t sit well, but this was reasonably fun and enjoyable, even if simmons not really stretching himself here to any large degree.

Jesus Christ, Dan Simmons phones it in yet again. This noir novel is completely awful. At least the first Joe Kurtz novel had a few loving homages to Westlake and seemed to be written in a spirit of Simmons TRYING to find his misplaced voice. But Simmons has stopped pretending to be Richard Stark and is just thoroughly mediocre here. Kurtz is a thoroughly uninteresting thug, an utterly prosaic trope of a character. The business with Arlene is hackneyed. And the less said about Little Skag and Farino, the better. It's now thoroughly depressing to read Dan Simmons. Especially when one recalls how GREAT he used to be. Ugh.

Better than the first book! It is still unrealistic crime nonsense, but entertaining nonsense.

Not really a crime fan, but I’m reading these on the strength of the authors sci-fi books. Look forward to the third one.

Dan Simmons has skillfully interwoven three story lines in this fast-moving, action-packed suspense tale. A few parts are not quite credible, but overall, this is an enjoyable book.

Not bad (This is the 2nd book of the Joe Kurtz series) So much going on in this one. Someone has taken a hit out on Joe. Everyone is doing business with everyone else. This is a fast passed easy read. Not bad
