Dan Simmons is a hell of a storyteller.

I have never read Hyperion, which appears to be Simmons' most famous work, but I have read his fun retelling of the Iliad, Ilium and Olympos. This collection of stories has a bit from the universe of Ilium and a bit from the Hyperion universe, plus a few other random stories. They are fun -- a good adventure into a different world. They are not Literature (and Simmons never claims that they are). Really, I couldn't shake the feeling that they were sort of a guilty pleasure for all concerned, but that's not a bad thing. And he is a hell of a storyteller.

Worth it if you've read and liked Simmons' other work.

I liked four out of the five novellas, so I gave it four out of five stars. The last one,"The End of Gravity" was not great, but I really enjoyed the "orphans" of the Helix" which was set in the Hyperion universe. I am a big fan of the Hyperion books.

Pretty good but a bit uneven. It was great to get a little piece of the Hyperion universe back - felt like coming home ;-) But a couple of the stories were just so-so.

This is a dpectacular collection of Dan Simmons stories. There are just 5 novella-length stories here, each left me wanting more.

If you've covered the Hyperion cantos, or the Illium pair, or cannot find enough first-rate scifi novellas, then these 5 shorts are unmissable.

So glad I purchased this book. Sci-Fi at its best. Dan Simmons is a genious at his craft (and I have a feeling that he knows it!)

I loved the story about hiking K2 with an alien. All of the stories were decent reads but I wish they had more exposition. Half the time I wasn't entirely sure what happened at the end of the story. Still, lots of neat ideas floating around in here.
