Of the over a couple of dozen cookbooks in our shelves, this general cookbook is one of the ones we've used the most over the years, certainly in the top four. The section tabs make it very easy to find recipes and the Special Helps section and inside covers make sure useful information is at your fingertips.
This belonged to my mom. Some of my favorite recipes came out of here, including the best recipe for gingerbread people I've ever found. The recipe for the hot fudge cake is killer!
I grew up with my mom's old bent paged copy and got a new revised one when I got married. Great book- ideas, pictures, information- like how to cut a whole chicken.... but with today's youtube how-to videos and Allrecipes.com you don't really need a cookbook- but I still like to have something in my hand- albeit with an occasional oil stain and flour on the pages.
I collect cookbooks. I love leafing through them, looking at the photos and reading recipes. Yet I seldom COOK from them. This book and the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook are the exceptions, the books I go to time and again simply because they have recipes for "real" food, practical meals with common ingredients. It's my "go to" gift for brides to be."
