This was my very first cookbook some 40 years ago and I still make recipes from this book. The recipes are really good, nothing too fancy, but always satisfy.
Personal favorites include:
- Waikiki Meatballs - Snickerdoodles, a Christmas staple - London Broil - Russian Teacakes - Silver White Cake, a birthday staple
Hehe. Awks to add this to a reading list but I like to have a visual of my whole bookshelf. I heart this cookbook. Super useful infos. My roomie and I are enjoying. :)
Although I wouldn't recommend this book for general, every day reading unless you're fond of lists and instructions this is my go-to cookbook for absolutely everything. All the recipes that I cook regularly are from this cookbook, and all my family favourites are from here as well. Perfect for all the original, homestyle cooking recipes. If you're looking for something a little more adventurous in your cooking this book probably isn't for you, but if you want a good general cookbook this is the best of the best.
This was my very first cookbook that I received as a gift. It was handed down to me by someone who was given this (although an older version) same cookbook as her first.
I absolutley love it! It has everything you need to learn how to cook! It also makes a great staple and go-to cookbook for my kitchen, years later now that I am more experience.
I love this book. This is more for a beginners cook but, it teaches you a lot of tips and shows you carbs and daily value. There are some no brainers such as 'making scrambled eggs' but I still think it has some great recipes in here! I think this is one of the better cook books I've ever seen, though. I know I'll be using it a lot. I've already used it a few times and I just got it!
My favorite, basic, cookbook. This is my go-to cookbook when I'm looking for a specific recipe. If I can't find it here, then I started my other books. But usually, I can find what I want here. It as my Favorite bread recipe, my favorite recipe for lemon meringue pie to name jus a couple. Wonderful cookbook.
I don't know what it was about this one, but it lacked a good deal of the charm of the earlier cookbooks. There was much more of a focus on saving time, dropping anything that required a lot of skill, and heaven help us Betty had finally been informed about fat and cholesterol. Still a good book, still highly accessible, but a bit flat.
