I've never highlighted (digitally) so many book passages in my life! Sheen was skilled at encapsulating profound truth in a succinct sentence or two. I appreciate his keen insight and vast knowledge used here to explain the Blessed Mother's role in great depth. A few areas grew a little dull, and the final chapter and its focus on the atomic bomb was rather dated, but most observations apply just as readily now (or even more so) as when Sheen wrote them.

Gosh, Fulton Sheen writes so beautifully and slam dunks every argument with very thoughtful and poignant points. He crafts a highly theological narrative for those that enjoy the intellectual side of the faith but also a beautiful portrait that stirs the heart of anyone wanting to learn more about our Blessed Mother. Highly recommend!!

Great read. This book is focused on Mary, but has strong undercurrents of the role of women in all aspects of life. This should be read by all who want to draw closer to Mary and who want to understand (at least in beginning) the unique feminine genius of Woman.

As typical with Sheen, this book is beautifully written and contains a wealth of knowledge - yes on Mary, but more importantly on her relationship with her Son, Jesus Christ. Highly recommend to anyone, and especially to the mommas out there. Lots to ponder and was even moved to shed some tears.

Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

A brilliant treatise on Mary - spiritually, socially, anthropologically & philosophically as expected from Ven. Sheen.

This is one of the greatest works on Mary that exists. Fulton Sheen clearly brings to light many aspects of Our Lady and what it means to Christians. It is a good introduction to anyone who needs to know anything about Marian devotion.

Beautifully written, this book does a great job of unpacking the mystery and glory of Mary from many different angles. It’s definitely best to take this book in small doses so it’s easier to fully grasp all that is written.

Sheen also connects Marian theology to more modern times. Some of the language and thinking here is outdated, obviously, and I thought it got a bit political at times, but there’s still some wisdom that can be gleaned.

This book was enjoyable for me, though it was long and at the end felt like a chore to finish. However, I’m glad I read it due to the gems within. For example:

“Some may object that the Lord is enough and they have no need of Mary. But He needed her, whether we do or not.”

“Democracy put man on a pedestal; feminism put woman on a pedestal. But neither democracy nor feminism could live a generation unless a Child was put into a pedestal.”

“Although there are few tabernacle lamps in India, Japan, and Africa compared to the total population, nevertheless I see, written over the gateways to all these nations, the words of the Gospel at the beginning of the public life of the Savior: ‘And Mary, the Mother of Jesus, was there.’”

I absolutely loved this book.
It’s an easy read.
It explains why Mary is so important, why she is considered our mother, the role she plays in the world , the reason she her interceding works, I feel this book ties facts and psychology to make sense of her being. Making me love Mary, through that making me love Jesus more.
It’s a book every Catholic should read.
Fulton Sheen is truly gifted in his writing.

Fulton Sheen never lets me down. Always accessible, yet often profound, the good bishop's love of Our Lady comes through on every page!
