Hace mucho que leí este libro que digo mucho muchísimo era de mis primeros libros de romántica que leía y no recuerdo mucho sólo lo de la botella y el mensaje que me gustó pero el final fue horrible me dejó con una sensación horrible de vacío por eso JAMÁS le volví a dar otra oportunidad a Nicholas Sparks, sólo a sus adaptaciones de las películas que me parecen mejores que sus libros jajaja

This was as good as I remember. It’s the first Nicholas Sparks book I read a long time ago and it was great to read it again!

An amazing book. It is full of great emotions and strong feelings. I am so glad that I decided to read this book.

It is a double tragic love story – the male protagonist lost his wife in a sea accident then met his new love when the latter accidentally got hold of the letter he put inside the bottle. However, he again lost that new love because they could not agree where to live – whether the man’s or the woman’s. It is so stupid that you could not believe adult thinking individuals like them still exist in this world. On the other hand, romantics are known not to be rational at all times so after seeing the movie, I bought a copy of this book because I would like to understand each line of the letters the character of Kevin Costner put in the bottles. I was then in my honeymoon stage (1994) so I was a senseless romantic. After few years, I donated the book to a local high school in our area and vowed not to read a Nicholas Sparks stupid novel. Fast forward 2008: I was in LA airport and saw that The Lucky One was among the New York Times Bestseller list and the store was offering 50% rebate if I return the book within 6 months. I thought I would go back to the USA last January 2009 so I bought the book. Now it is sitting in my bookshelf. I rated the novel two stars so I am back to my I-hate-Nicholas-Sparks self.

Message in a Bottle

This book is amazingly romantic and emotion wrecked. It poor my heart out. A great book to read when life is against you, when you've lost someone very dear. It will make you cry and give you hope at the same time.

It was, in a way, the ideal home for the message it carried inside, a message that had been sent to fulfill a promise."




Personal note:
I found very old a copy of this book. The cover is folded, the pages are colored in time and bend a lot. You can see this book is read by many. The book came all the way from USA and ended up in a Dutch Free Little Library. I cherrisch this book with my whole heart. My little gem.

Reconozco que al principio el libro se me hizo muy empalagoso, demasiado. Luego poco a poco me fue interesando más sobre todo porque trata el tema de las relaciones a distancia y en ese sentido, me parece que lo hace acertadamente.
La relación de Garret con Katherine no me interesaba demasiado, pero sí la posterior de Garrett con Theresa y su forma de afrontar la distancia.
El final no está mal del todo aunque es bastante peliculero.

Romantični žanrovi rijetko su moj izbor.Sa ovom knjigom htjela sam lagano zaključiti ljeto (iako me još čekaju 2-3 slične..) i nisam baš pogriješila.
Nema one prepoznatljive sladunjavosti,odbojnosti pa strasti..i na kraju,pisac je muškarac!
Vrlo lijepi opisi života pored oceana,lišeno uvijek naglašenog luksuza i ostalog prenemaganja, koje se danas obilno nude čitatelju ovog žanra..
Lijepa priča o izgubljenoj ljubavi,o izgubljenim prilikama i zanimljivo-bez klasičnog happy end-a!
Priča nam nudi i zanimljive životne dileme ,intrigira nas da i sami promislimo o istim...
Vrlo dobro Nicholas..!

After finishing Message in a Bottle, I am completely speechless. I was unable to put the book down and so eager to continue to learn what will happen next. Nicholas Sparks is my favorite author and after reading this book, I'd say this is his most touching novel I've read so far. A woman, Theresa, is recovering from a divorce. One day, while she was on the beach, she finds something that'll change her life forever. She sees a bottle with something inside--it's a letter. She reads it and tears begin to fall because the person who wrote this letter really loved his significant other. This someone was Garrett. After many events, Theresa and Garrett meet and they develop something so beautiful. Theresa is falling for Garrett but she's still protecting herself from getting hurt because she knows Garrett isn't over his wife, Catherine, who died 3 years ago. Theresa had 3 letters Garrett wrote and he found them. They end up having a big argument and Garrett leaves. Theresa went down and they decided to end their relationship because things aren't working out. Sparks writes in 3rd person omniscient and readers can see that they both don't want to end like this. The ending is the best part and you'll have to read it to feel it. This novel has emphasized how important your significant other is, how it'll feel to loose them, but most importantly, to always keep and love them with all your heart. Nicholas Sparks was able to make me see another side of love. I'd recommend this book to everyone because it's a really great book. This book was powerful enough to make me tear up.
