English review: "A Walk to Remember" was a touching book, a teenage love story that, unsurprisingly, has a sad ending.
Nicholas Sparks' writing isn't anything special, nor are the characters particularly memorable. Jamie Sullivan is almost too perfect—she never feels hatred or contempt, always tries to help everyone, and is completely selfless—yet it's hard not to get attached to her. What saves the book is the ending, which manages to deliver the desired emotional impact.
The love story might feel forced to some. After all, Landon is an average 17-year-old boy who would likely never fall for a girl who constantly talks about God's plan and doesn't act like someone her age. However, I believe that in real life, many jerks have found their match (even Hitler, come on), so why wouldn't a girl like Jamie find someone too, especially since the narrator describes her as very beautiful.
It's not a deep or highly impressive book; it's just an emotional story that, in the end, succeeds in what it sets out to do—making you empathize with the characters, but that's about it.

“I held her close to me with my eyes closed, wondering if anything in my life had ever been this perfect and knowing at the same time that it hadn't. I was in love, and the feeling was even more wonderful than I ever imagined it could be.”

Love changes everyone.
It changes the way you think, the way you look at things, the way you do something.
It changes you in ways that you couldn’t do on your own.
It changes you entirely.
Love is mysterious.
Love is complex.
It works in ways we would not be able to understand or comprehend.
There are no words to explain it.
So when Langdon Carter fell in love, he found no words to clearly express how he felt for Jaime Sullivan.

Langdon and Jaime were two different people destined by fate to be together maybe not forever but they were destined to be in each others lives and change one another.
Their story was beautiful.
It was simple.
Not unique.
No supernatural thing.
There was nothing spectacular about this book.
But you get to feel pure emotions coming out of its pages.
You feel Jaime’s faith and Langdon’s love.

A great book is not the one with difficult words and complicated stuff. For me, a great book doesn’t need to have profound words or lengthy sentences. A great book is the one that touches your soul despite not having intricacy. It touches your life and makes you realize things that you may have overlooked.
A Walk to Remember is one of those books.
Simply written.
Not too long but full of meaning and emotion.

I actually watched the movie first before I had the chance to read the book.
The movie was an instant favorite.
It made me cry. A lot.
I watched it at least 10 times. No Joke!
Shane West and Mandy Moore really made it believable.
I wouldn’t have chosen any other actors for Jaime and Langdon’s part.
Every time some one asked me my favorite movie, it would always be A Walk to Remember.
After reading the book, I just made fell in love with A Walk to Remember more.
It made me realize also how short life is and the importance of faith.
It made me envious though.
Langdon and Jaime’s love was something rare.
It was something that I hope someday I would have too.
I think everyone wants this kind of love.
The one that’s gentle and kind.
Not jealous.
Not boastful.
Not conceited.
After reading this book was when I truly understood what Corinthians 13 meant.

I love this book and I would love it forever.
I also love the movie by the way.
I don’t care what other people say.

A Walk to Remember is one of those rare romance movies I actually enjoy (re)watching. There's just something so beautiful about the way Shane West looks at Mandy Moore (he might even be able to make Milo Ventimiglia jealous :P) that even I, who usually dies of boredom when watching anything that clearly has more romance than plot or character, cannot help but cry my soul out.

I also gotta admit, though the book was pretty solid as well, I very much prefer the movie version. First off, Jamie in the book is little miss goody-two-shoes through and through, she's even described as an angel on more than one occasion.

Landon on the other hand technically falls into the category of the "bad boy" (wItH a gOoD heArT) despite being a literal fluff ball and doing nothing wrong.

At least Shane West wore a leather jacket, had a record, and tried pulling off a James Dean whenever possible ("See you at my house later?" "Yeah, in your dreams perhaps") so the whole "Jamie saved me and turned me into a better human being" story was much more believable in the film.

Like, come on, Mr. Sparks if you wanna go with a cliché GO WITH A CLICHÉ, don't do things by halves, jeeez.

So yes, ironically (ya know because they have less time to develop stuff) the movie did a better job at fleshing out the characters and intensifying their relationship. Aside from that, it tuned down the overly pious attitude of Jamie and didn't go with the plot-line of Landon eventually turning to faith as well in the end.

Jamie in the movie isn't just defined by her illness or her belief, either, she actually has much more of a personality. Also, Landon's relationship with his father was way more intriguing in the film.

But the novel was by no means bad, I simply prefer the movie version. I'm still glad to have read it, cause it's kind of the ORIGINAL Fault in Our Stars and all in all, it's a quick and rather cute read.

My first Nick Sparks book, a beautiful one too. At first I was kind of reluctant to read it since the story is set in 1958 and I thought it was going to be slow and well, boring. Boy was I wrong, this book was engaging and I feel that it's very entertaining to read the book in Landon's POV.

I particularly love the stark contrast between Landon, the bad boy gone good, and Jamie, the devout Christian girl who is everything nice on the surface and with closer inspection, a strong character whom I find myself admiring and can't help falling for (much like Landon did after he got to know her).

It is amazing, not to mention touching to see how their relationship from an unlikely friendship develops into something much more. It is very seldom to find their kind of love, which is pure and honest in today's teen/YA novels.

One of my favorite parts is when they were celebrating Christmas together, they were exchanging presents and only at this point that I realized how real their feelings were towards each other. I was smiling the whole time and it was so beautiful, so romantic! I have to admit a lot of tears were involved (both sad and happy) during this particular scene.

A poignant novel that broke my heart and proved that miracles do come true... Fair warning; make sure you are in the vicinity of Kleenex, they really do come in handy. A lot. Of course, eating comfort food later sure helps as well.

Highly recommended for those seeking a beautiful story about young love.

5 sao. Nhưng đậu má cái kết.

Edit 12/12/18.

Highly recommend for a quick reading.

I am surprised by how much I liked this one. This was my first Nicholas Sparks read and after years of it being recommended to me I finally gave in.

I expected a by the numbers, cliche, love story. And it was in a way, but the characters were great and so the journey was great. And sad.

You know where this is headed from the very beginning in a way, but it still surprises you at points.
And no, I did not cry... I think... Maybe... Manly tears only...

I watched the movie years ago and cried like a baby. Even though I was conscious of the fact that everything in the movie was sculptured to emotionally manipulate me, I fell for it. Fortunately, the book did not have the same effect on me. Reading A Walk To Remember was like eating a whole tub of chocolate ice cream by yourself - it feels good while you do it, but after you just feel awful and annoyed with yourself.

A Walk To Remember is, without a doubt, the most emotionally manipulative book I have read to date. Which came as no surprise to me, because even though this is my first Nicholas Sparks book (and probably my last), I am very familiar with his criticisms - that he writes predictable, sappy, saccharine loves stories that will make you cry. (Please refer to this Cracked.com article written 5 years ago but remains relevant today.)

Allow me to elaborate on that last point: the problem with Sparks's novels isn't that his books make you cry, but it's the fact that he tries extremely hard to make you cry. There are topics that are inherently sensitive for many people, such as young love, love that is separated, terminal illnesses, unexpected accidents and tragedies, death and dying, and so on.

These issues are not off-limits, but given the nature of these topics, they should be written with sensitivity and with dignity. Sparks does neither; instead he unashamedly, unapologetically reminds you of the very tragic, very sad, very horrible circumstances of his characters. This is no exception in The Walk To Remember; all of his characters aren't human beings, they are accessories to further Sparks's goal to write his super sad stories. To drive my point home, this line is within the first chapter:
First you will smile, and then you will cry - don't say you haven't been warned.

Only writers who try to make you cry would ever say such a thing. Or just really bad writers. Or both. (Both.)

Needless to say, the writing left me speechless at times. If you're wondering what sort of speechless, consider these lines:
Wishing someone luck before a play is supposed to be bad luck. That's why everyone tells you to "break a leg".

Gee, Sparks. It's a little insulting to assume your target audience is incapable of understanding idioms that are prevalent within Western society and culture.
"It happened so fast, Mom, the car came out of nowhere. It just darted out in front of me, and I couldn't stop in time." Now, everyone knows cows don't exactly dart anywhere, but his mother believed him. She used to be a head cheerleader too, by the way.

What sort of insulting, stereotypical, sexist drivel is this?
... I'd come to realize that drama was just the most boring class ever invented.

How is this man a bestselling author? No wonder people feel sad after reading his books; it's the end of good literature as we know it.
