All Sparks novels are love stories. This time, Nights in Rodanthe will take you to a shoreline town, Rodanthe where (guess what) two middle aged people have met, each have their own (guess what) heart’s baggage, and (guess what) fell in love. That very love that sparked between them (guess what) gave them hope and changed their lives forever. Very predictable.

I watched every movie adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' novels but I never cared to actually read his novels which made me feel like I was cheating on this author. I thought it was kind of unfair that I benefit so much from his stories by merely watching the movie adaptations. So, when I saw my chance at retribution through a book sale, I automatically laid my eyes and hands on this book and yes I braced myself for the tears and the death common in Sparks' books which I indeed encountered in this book but after reading this book, the empty corners of my heart and mind were once again satiated with rich and beautiful life lessons.

It was mushy and sentimental but it was perfect to me maybe a side effect of midlife crisis."

I listened to this via audio, which I think wasn’t the best ideas as I feel I missed a lot of key details to the back story (will have to reread the physical). I liked the love story between Adrienne and Paul. I liked how it wasn’t the typical young couple fall in love kind of a romance. They had been loved before (very different marriages) and came together so unexpectantly. The family aspects of the story were also very enjoyable. It was nice to see different people go through grief etc and come through it. I particularly gravitated towards Amanda and how she got through the loss of her husband and was able to become stronger for her children. I do enjoy a Nicholas Sparks book!

A wonderfully unfolding love story that took me inside Adrienne's life and heart and is my favorite of Nicholas Sparks' novels. I love the letters that reveal so much of the story. Read it in two sittings and couldn't put it down. Just finished my 3rd reading of it in 10 years. Still holding it and gazing at the shining moonlit horizon on the beautiful cover with moist eyes.

Nights in Rodanthe, Nicholas Sparks

Nicholas Charles Sparks is an American novelist, screenwriter, and philanthropist. Nights in Rodanthe is a romantic love and loss story novel, first published in September 2002. Adrienne Willis is 45 and has been divorced for three years, abandoned by her husband for a younger woman. The trials of raising her teenage children and caring for her sick father have worn her down, but at the request of a friend and in hopes of respite, she's gone to the coastal village of Rodanthe in North Carolina to tend the local inn for the weekend. With a major storm brewing, the time away doesn't look promising...until a guest named Paul Flanner arrives. ...

She had fallen in love with a stranger in the course of a weekend, and she would never fall in love again.

This is my first Nicholas Sparks book. I love the movie, The Notebook, based on his novel, so I decided to give this one a try.

It is a great love story for February. As in The Notebook this novel is told in the first person reflecting on past events. The main character, Adrienne, is telling a story to her daughter (Amanda) to help her get through her husband's death.

In the story Adrienne takes Amanda back years ago when she met a man named Paul in a town called Rodanthe. In a few days' time Paul and Adrienne begin a love story for the ages. Unfortunately, this love affair was not meant to last.

*My favorite part of this story was the setting. As the book describes, Rodanthe is a little fishing town in the Outerbanks, North Carolina. My family and I stayed in a town not far from Rodanthe last October and I can attest that the descriptions in this book portray it accurately. It's an absolutely beautiful beachside town. So, that definitely aided in my enjoyment of the book.

The novel is only 212 pages long, so the romance (to me) seemed a bit rushed. Adrienne and Paul fell in love by the second day and decided to spend their lives together. That's a bit of a stretch to me, but in the spirit of Valentines month I went with it. :) I have not seen the movie but have heard it is good, so I may give it a shot!

Another incredible work by Nicholas Sparks that has successfully impressed me. In this novel, Nicholas Sparks managed to make me curious about what's happening until the last minute. He reveal things little by little, making me so curious and anticipating what's coming next.

The story is about Adrienne -a woman with 3 children, left by her husband because of another woman - and Paul Flanner - a 54-year-old-man, left by his wife and son for being a workaholic. They both met in Rodanthe, where Paul was staying and Adrienne was helping her friend to watch the place. The way they fell in love is beautifully described, but however, not every love story has a happy ending.. :(

The one thing I regret is buying the edition with the movie cover on it. Paul was described as a really great man with mesmerizing features, but then I saw Richard Gere on the cover and all the imagination just melts away (i'm sorry i'm not a big fan of Richard Gere - and i haven't seen the movie yet)..

Anyway, overall this book is great, not disappointing :) I hope Nicholas Sparks will never stop writing great books.
