If you are looking for a book that will absolutely tug at your heartstrings until your heart is about to burst out of your chest then you have found the one. This book had me bawling by the end. And I don't cry when I read. Ever. So for this to make me absolutely lose it (and not the cute little sniffles kind of crying- the all out, don't look at me, kind of crying) is quite a feat.

This is my first Nicholas Sparks read (although I have seen The Notebook about 1 million and 2 times) and I already know it will not be the last.

At first, I was a little concerned because I had very high expectations for this book and it seemed to be starting off kind of slow. Once I got a few chapters in though I couldn't stop. I ended up reading almost the entire book in my flight from SLC to Washington D.C. and then finished once I got to my hotel room.

The Wedding absolutely exceeded my expectations because it really is a different kind of love story. Especially with it being in connection with The Notebook. This is not a story about that fiery passionate love of two people who can't stand to be apart no matter what. No, this is a story about a flawed man who has realized his neglect and only wants to right his wrongs and make up for those lost years. A story about a man who decides he wants to make his wife fall in love with him all over again. And let met tell you, he KILLS it. Knocks it out of the park. 10 out of 10 and 5 stars.

My absolute favorite thing about this book is the message that comes across. Love is not easy. You can be in love with someone to the moon and back but a relationship still takes work. It takes communication and putting yourself out there. To love is natural, to show your love is a more difficult task.

"But love, I've come to understand, is more than three words mumbled before bedtime. Love is sustained by action, a pattern of devotion in the things we do for each other every day" {pg. 65}

I absolutely recommend this book and for sure will be reading it again in the future.

As a sequel to the widely-acclaimed The Notebook, Sparks had an interesting task to create a story that would live up to its predecessor. The Wedding is, quite unusually, not a continum of The Notebooks main characters, and rather the next generation. This risk in storytelling certainly paid off, as this sequel is both heartwarming and utterly charming.

I enjoyed almost every aspect of this novel. I would have liked to have seen more interaction with Noah and Allie, the characters we have fallen in love with previously. Wilson and Jane simply do not have the same charisma, although their marital life is just as beautifully told. As this is more of a modern love story, it loses some of the magical elements Sparks is famous for. Finally, the title of this novel I disliked instantly, which may seem a rather petty area to critique, but a title gives so much away. The Wedding sounds uninspiring, and if I had not previously known it was a sequel to The Notebook, I may have skipped this book all together!

Of course, as with all Sparks' novels, there is a fair amount of trouble and strife - a 'love conquers all' mentality is not lost and many chapters instil that good old fashioned, classic romance aspect that so many other modern love stories lack. Sparks is undoubtedly a genius in this field, as shown through so many of his other previous stories. If you enjoyed The Notebook, it is most definitely worth reading this lovely sequel, if only to discover what becomes of Noah and Allie in the years to come. Readers may also be interested in reading A Walk To Remember, another personal favourite of mine and one that follows similar lines of The Notebook.

This was a sweet romance story between a couple falling out of love after 30 years of marriage. The narrator, Wilson Lewis, re-courts his wife Jane for a year in hopes of saving their marriage; he forgot their wedding anniversary the year prior and she was understandably deeply hurt. What felt like a prolonged and predictable plot focusing primarily on the revival of their relationship and the preparations for their daughter’s last-minute wedding, ended with a very pleasant surprise. In my opinion, that ending was the best part of the whole book - the cliche “saving the best for last” really applied here. I also felt the narrator’s close and special relationship with his father-in-law, Noah Calhoun, was rare and refreshing, too.

This is a sequel to Nicholas Sparks’s very popular novel “The Notebook which stars the narrator’s in-laws Noah and Allie Calhoun. I read it a few decades ago. Their love story was referenced in this one, but I don’t feel it necessary to read first. This sequel can stand on its own.

2.5 stars rounded up.

Reading this was a good experience. A kind of book that will bring out your romantic side. Surely I would recommend this to certain people I know. Cant wait to read more of Nicholas Sparks creation.

I enjoyed this book, even though I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t more connected to ally and Noah from the notebook. I liked seeing Wilson and Jane’s love story and the tribulations and disconnections that happen as a marriage goes on and through life’s chapters. I liked the flash back to when they first dated and then to the present moment. I thought the ending was great and I was shocked as I predicted that it would be a double wedding (Wilson and Jane renewing their vows and Anna and her husband getting married). This book makes me want to read the notebook again as I what to be immersed in Ally and Noah’s story a bit more.

Abandono. Creo que no me ha aburrido tanto una historia nunca. No la valoro porque quizá mejora después, pero yo no tengo paciencia suficiente.

Some of my friends here know how I feel about Mr. Sparks, and may wonder, "why the hell is she trying another of his books?" Well I ask myself the same question! However, I saw it on my shelf and the swans on the cover drew me. (Yes, sometimes I am easy). I blew off the dust (I've had it forever), and peeked at page one... 10 mins and 20 pages later I realized, "Well, I 'spose I'm giving Ole Sparks a chance again".

If you are a fan of The Notebook, you may enjoy this sequel. Having been married for double digit years myself, I identified with Jane and Wilson's feelings. After a period of time, you settle into a routine, and may start to realize, what happened?

Towards the end, I kept thinking "Ok, whos going to die? Who are you killing Sparks?". But no! He got me this time. I was totally surprised at the twist at the end, and found I actually enjoyed it!

Whatever, Mr. Sparks. Whatever, indeed.

The Wedding almost seemed like it was specifically written for me to hate - and it's been a long time since I've disliked a book this much. There's no real art to it (people are "white as paper" and so forth), but it's written for people who don't exactly have alternative lifestyles or world views. The baby boomer housewife married her husband because he respected her desire to be a housewife at a time when "most people our age wanted to change the world," and she knew he'd be a good provider. As someone who eloped (and really upset her mother), I flinched when the wife freaked out just because her daughter wanted a small wedding (and says she would be horrified if her daughter had eloped).

The entire book is devoted to wedding plans - the narrator will say something like "I spent the afternoon in my den making calls for the wedding" and then DETAIL them (called the sheetrock guy, who said...called the gardener, who said...). These are conversations that bore me in real life, so why would I want to read them in a book I'm ostensibly reading for pleasure???

And it is so over-the-top - the daughter asks her mom to be her matron of honor, and then there's a twist at the end that is impossible to believe would ever happen. Still, there are folks that will love this book despite its sappiness, and I don't want to rain on their parade more than I already have.

Beautiful. Heartwarming. Hopeful.

I loved this love story about a man trying to make up for the years he missed with his wife. It follows the daughter of Noah and Allie Calhoun (originally introduced in Sparks’ The Notebook) and her disappointing marriage. Full of twists and turns, I loved the way this story came together.

Just beautiful.

Although this book was kind of predictable, it was such a sweet sweet story. And what I took from it was even sweeter. It was a little reminder for my own relationship. To be more selfless, pay more attention, say endearments out loud and sincerely be there for my significant other. Life gets messy and other things take up much of your time but you always have to make time for the laughing, the flirting and for the reasons that made you love that person from the beginning. Such a sweet story. ❤️

Nicholas Sparks sure knows how to keep things real. Marriage isn't always roses and butterflies, even between those deeply in love. There will be hardships and doubts and moments of dispair, but anyone can find their way back if they fight for what they are sure is true love.
