This book is about a young boy named Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Patridge. He is friends with a bunch of people from the old people home next door, especially Ms. Nancy. Ms.Nancy is special because she is older and does not remember things like we do (she has short term memory loss). One day, he asked his parents what a memory was. They responded saying it is something you remember. This sparked his curiosity, so he asked many of the other friends he had at the old people home. Mrs. Jordan said it was something warm, Mr. Hosking said it was something from long ago,Mr. Tipet said it was something that made you cry,Ms. Mitchell said it was something that made you laugh, and finally Mr. Drysdale said it was something that is more precious than gold. The little boy ran home and gathered as much of these things as he could find. I put them in a basket and gave them to Ms. Nancy. She surprisingly remembered everything through what he gave her. She remember things that happened when she was young, all the way up to the time she met him.

This book is a delightfully illustrated book and Mem Fox has crafted a heart-warming and poignant story.

Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge lives next door to a nursing home. He has many friends there and he especially likes spending time with Miss Nancy Alison Delacourt Cooper, because she has four names just like he does.

His parents are talking about Miss Nancy, and he can’t understand why they say she’s lost her memory. He asks all his friends in the nursing home about memories and how to find them. In the end, Wilfrid presents her with a box of memories and Miss Nancy starts to recall little things.

This story is everything we can expect from such a consummate author and creator.

In this story, Wilfred lives next to a retirement home and his favorite person is Ms. Nancy. Everyone around him says she's lost her memory. While Wilfred doesn't know what a memory is he asks around to hear others' opinions. Once he puts together a box he accidentally helps Ms. Nancy's memory come back. I love this story and would love to use it as a read-aloud and have it aa a part of my classroom library.

A pleasant little story about a child who lives next to a home for older adults and who creates a memory box for a resident who has memory issues (presumably dementia). It's got a nice, little repetitive rhythm for a read-aloud, but it's not the most memorable of stories and, to be perfectly honest, I found the illustrations to be garish and kind of creepy.

Absolutely precious. My two very favorite kinds of people: baby things and little old folks. Somebody has lost something and another wants to help get it back. SO precious! The illustrations are perfect. This is an absolute must read for all.

"But his favorite person of all was Ms. Nancy Alison Delacourt Cooper. Because she had 4 names, just as he did." Wilfred forms an unusual friendship with an elderly woman who lives next door. One day Wilfred learns that Mr. Nancy is losing her memory. I would use this book in the classroom as a read aloud with the purpose of Read to Learn. The students will be able to make connections as well as learn the meaning of a memory, just as Wilfred did. This is such a heartwarming book that is sure to make you smile.

This story of a young boy who lives next to an old folks home is a beautiful book about discovering what memories are, and how to share them with others. It reminds me of all the initiatives happening in the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe to try to bring young children and the elderly together to share experiences and joy.
We were given a copy of this book as a present at our Baby Shower this weekend, and friends were encouraged to write their favourite childhood memories inside. This is going to be a lovely keepsake to read to our children.

I love this book - full of curiosity and kindness, showing the invaluable love and connection that can grow between the very young and the very old if given an opportunity. Like other viewers, I cry every time - it's hard to describe how the little boy's kindness to someone who doesn't quite understand his actions is felt in your very heart. This book successfully shows the very best side of being human.
