Intre Children of Dune si God Emperor of Dune, time gap.
Intre God Emperor of Dune si Heretics of Dune, timp gap.

I’ve read the original Dune series several times and just realized how much I enjoyed this book and have moved it up to 2nd on my list with Dune being at the top.

I really enjoy how strong the Bene Gesserits are depicted. The women in this book are a force to be reckoned with.

In Heretics of Dune, a young girl is discovered on Rakis (formerly known as Dune or Arrakis) who can control the sandworms. Of course the Bene Gesserit want her. Meantime on the planet Gammu (formerly the Harkonnen planet Geidi Prime) a young Duncan Idaho ghola is training under the tutelage of Miles Teg (an Atreides descendant).

As usual, there are so many plots within plots that’s it’s difficult to describe. Let’s just say that I read this 500+ page book within 24 hours because I didn’t want to put it down.

Niemniej nadal ta część stoi GADANIEM - intrygami i spiskami wszelkiej maści i kategorii.

I have to admit my expectations were pretty high when entering the Dune series since these books are hailed as one of the best in the sci-fi genre. I would argue the over arching story hidden behind Frank’s writing is very compelling, but in order to enjoy it you have to fight him for every piece of it.

At least two thirds of every book is riddled with long, sluggish conversations, that themselves are peppered with undefined diegetic terminology, hit-or-miss philosophy, unsatisfying character development and incomplete world building. If you manage to power through endless pages of what, at worst, feels like padding, you’re rewarded with details that seem relevant to the story being told.

There is a very fun experience in every book, but it’s hidden behind so many layers of fat that it really becomes an exercise in patience. One usually has to wait until the last 20% of the book for characters to gain agency and start getting “shit done”.

I feel like an amazing story happened in the Dune universe, but the only person around to tell the story was Frank and he’s just not very good at it.

I enjoyed this one. The world-building is exceptional as ever and it managed to bring me back into the Dune Universe after the previous  God Emperor of Dune

Finally! I haver been dreading reading this book for ever so long, and now the alarm bells seem to have been superfluous. Lulled into a false sense of doom and with jangling nerves fostered by the utter metaphysical crap that were the second, third and fourth books of the Dune series, and God Emperor of Dune was singularly mind-numbing, this gave my jangling nerves rest.

What's different? Well, there's still a lot of obscure talk, but some of it finally is relieved with some actual ACTION! Things HAPPEN, people DO things, there's a lot of running around, shouting, shooting laser beams and wild martial arts contests at superhuman speed. There are also a sect of women who have achieved the highest amplification of orgasm and use sex as a weapon. There are still the Bene Gesserit sisters strutting around like they're the cat's whiskers. And we actually get to get OFF Dune the Planet for a change. Good fun!

Ew. just ew. This whole book was about grooming. How many times does Herbert have to talk about pulsating vaginas? How does he make sex sound gross? Duncan Idaho was 15! That was a grown ass woman trying to seduce him. Just no. I hated this one the most out of them so far.

4.5 to 5.0 stars. Another superb installment in one of the best science fiction series of all time. The universe that Herbert created for the Dune series is as good as it gets and his writing and story telling are amazing. HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION!!!!
