. [image error] .
While to most, this anime might appear boring and slow, but it is a true masterpiece. Not only is the idea of the main character being the villain fascinating, the plot behind it is rather amazing. The deductive analysis done by both the Kira and L makes it truly interesting and it shows how justice works. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Re-reading it after such a long time and wow its amazing.
My thoughts are the same but I love the way we see Light Yagami get the death note and what he does with it that it leaves even the God of death stunned and the way he executes criminals is amazing but introducing L as his opponent whose trying to find his identity ups the stakes and it becomes a detective-mystery story with "Death" as its background. Just insane ideas on next level here and the art is so great and I love the ending with the FBI agents and what Light does changes everything! One of the best mangas easily.
This book was so good omg we basically pick up with a guy named Licht Yagami and he gets this book through which he can kill others and so he sets out to kill those who he thinks are scum of the earth and from there he meets Ryuk, a shinigami and he tells him about this death note and he is killing the criminals police start getting involved and Interpol and ultimately L, Kira's real nemesis and wow what a chase it is, both trying to outsmart the other. Its a story that gets into morality and detective work and this mystery and keeps you engaged, no wonder its a 5 out of 5 story. So we have Kira taking out fake L on live tv through which he deduces Kira is from Japan and then we have him being tailed and him using death note in creative ways like even better than Shinigami's and even Ryuk is impressed and the last ch is that with Ray pember and what happens further is gonna be awesome. This book was awesome and the art is even better. Licht's intelligence is next level.
Okay, so I thoroughly loved this! This was a fairly quick, fast paced read for me. Seriously, I didn't get a moments rest. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. It admittedly took me a couple of chapters to get used to reading in the correct direction. I'll get there eventually! Death Note volume one contains well drawn graphics and a band of characters that are well thought out and fantastically developed. I could have easily read this in one sitting if time allowed me to.
I'd heard grand things about Death Note, and initially, when I first heard about it, the title didn't interest me and really, to be honest, I just didn't care. But as I've started to watch the anime too, I thought I'd pick up the first volume and dive right in. By doing so, I've also realised what the hell I've been missing out on!
I saw a quick clip on YT of the abomination that is Netflix's Death Note and I needed a reread to assure myself that good story is still exists out there.
I've been hearing a lot about this manga (which is also an anime and a live action movie, now) so I took the opportunity at Erica's cousins' to read Volume 1. So, yes, I can understand the appeal to high school misfits -- Japanese high schooler Light Yagami finds a "Death Note" dropped by a Shinigami ("death god") and decides to use the powers of the note to cleanse the earth of evil doers. Half the book reads like a late night 'philosophical' discussion as Light tests the increasingly detailed rules governing the use of the Note.
I guess this was the first translated-but-not-inverted manga I've read and I was surprised at how quickly I adapted to reading right-to-left. Neato.
May luck save us from the gods getting bored. If they do, who knows what hell will break loose?
But alas, everyone ends up getting bored to tears. Every day is a more distorted and insignificant copy of the one before. “Against boredom even gods struggle in vain”, and when the gods get bored, they turn people into their playthings. After all, what does such a short life mean for an immortal being? The real horror is for a human to kill another of their own kind. No wonder the saying “this world is another planet's hell”. The mortal world is corrupt to the core, and we’re all alone. It's time for someone to take matters into their own hands.
Meet Ryuk, a Shinigami who, out of sheer boredom, dropped his death note into the human world. He could have never guessed how interesting things were about to get: he's about to have the time of his life at the expense of the human world.
Meet Yagami Light, the best student in Japan. He's ambitious, brilliant and ruthless. He has the will, the conviction and the guts. And now he has the means. He won’t let anything stand in his way of creating a just world inhabited by good people only. After all, the end justifies the means.
Meet L, a world-renowned genius detective. He’s calculating, strategic and driven. He won’t let anything stand in his way of creating a just world where the right to live isn’t violated. He isn’t protecting criminals, he’s protecting the world from a human with absolute power. After all, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
When these worlds collide, who knows what havoc they will wreak?
The pieces are in place, the players are ready. This is a deadly game, and the winner takes all. But player, beware of getting lost in the game: you might lose sight of what you're fighting for. After all, many who fought monsters ended up becoming monsters themselves, and “if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you”.
The bloodshed is about to begin. Welcome to the opening of the world's deadliest game.
This is more of my opinion on the whole series instead of the first volume.
Death note is a highly addictive read. I would say it’s the best manga I’ve ever read. It’s one of those stories which leaves you desperate for the ending, but at the same time upset because it all ended. Everything in Death note was planned out perfectly and it was very fast-paced so I was never fed up.
However, I do have a problem with the protagonist. Light’s character was never developed well. He suddenly just turns evil after gaining the notebook. He appeared like a perfectly normal high-schooler, but he becomes a cold-blooded killer in matter of days. I don’t buy it. There must be some progression. I wanted to see him regret his actions slightly at first before turning fully evil.
I am familiar with this story, since long long ago I saw the movie. I remember it vividly, so I wasn't surprised when I ended up liking this. I liked the main characters and the moral dilemma. Plotwise, it was really fast and I wasn't bored at all. It is eerie, creepy and sometimes I felt a little bit uncomfortable, so this is not for the faint-hearted. Definitly continuing.
One of the first animes I've ever watched, and I watched it first around 2012 probably. I rewatched it twice, once with my partner-for-life, another time during an Eid maybe. Or maybe it was a binge watch in 2012's Eid the first time, I don't remember. What I remember is, even during the third watch, it excited me, annoyed me, and hurt me at precisely the same places. Now I'm reading the manga for its arts. Fourth time into this and I'm not bored. This time around, the art is keeping me glued to the pages, considering I'm taking minutes and minutes to turn each page. I'm reading paintings this time, not the story. ;)
