The second book in this trilogy starts to deliver as much shock as the first about the appalling treatment David suffered but then his fight for survival and love shine through as he is finally removed and placed in different foster homes.
It was amazing near the end going on to see just what David achieved and the real strength of character he has, I was in complete awe. The epilogue notes I found really added to the story as we got the recollections of the main characters in Davids life at the time and and their thoughts and feelings of what happened in his past as they lived it and now his present.
A compulsive read.

This book is about a child who is put into the foster care system after his mother abuses him. Dave was a child who never fit in anywhere and was switched from home to home until he finally found one that would be his forever home. Dave enjoyed most of his foster care homes but normally a child doesn't stay in one very long.

This true story is absolutely heart-wrenching. While reading the book all I could think about is how could a child go through so much and turn out to be such a role-model for so many people. Dave had trouble fitting in with other in his teens and caused many problems for others because he was trying so hard to fit in but after time he was able to straighten up and become someone he could be proud of.

I simply love this book so far. I read the first one and I have tried so hard to look for more much like this, but I find it hard to finding a book of a kid going through abuse. (That is a one time deal) I love how Dave Pelzer puts so much thought in the details. If there are any other books with a sad, lonely, and intense feeling I would love to read them. I have not finished this book but I am looking forward to it. This is probably now one of my all time favorite book and probably will be yours if you read it too.
******SPOILER ALERT******
My favorite part so far was when he made his own decision and took a stand of courage by saying he was abused at the court.

Dave Pelzer’s The Lost Boy tells the story of his so called childhood, the years of abuse, disappearing with one decision that led to his discovery of a life and a world outside of his home. The book is set in his grade school to high school years, when he transit from being abused at home to living in the foster care system.
Wanting to escape his mother’s beatings yet yearning for her love and acceptance, Dave made a difficult decision of leaving his mother. Dave learns to adapt to his new life in the foster care system, a life style that he has chosen. The book reflects on Dave’s childhood, which allows readers to be inspired to not let obstacles in their lives discourage them from doing what they want.
Ultimately, the story of Dave Pelzer is a story of a transition from childhood to manhood, adapting to new environments, and discovering one’s self amidst of internal conflicts and conspiracy against a foster child. It all adds up to a tale of acceptance and forgiveness, the true meaning of enlightenment that too many people disregard. The Lost Boy conveys that story emotionally through actual events, attempting to help lost souls, much like Dave Pelzer, to discover and be driven to achieve their passion, and to find their standing in society.
The most memorable event in the book was when Dave made the decision to leave his mother, despite her threat from her previous visit. Knowing that Dave was scared by his mother, Ms. Gold (Pam) encouraged him to tell the court about his mother and what he wanted. Dave was a brave soul making that decision, because during his stay in the foster care system, he has always feared that his mother would take him back. Dave gave up in wanting to escape his mother’s beatings after her threat, but Pam insist and inspired him to leave his mother. Dave listened to Pam due to their deep connection. He couldn’t stand disappointing her nor reject her feelings.
Through this book I was able to learn more about the foster care system. Its significance and affect on the community. This book also reminded me to not take things for granted and appreciate little things in life. This book motivated me to work hard to reach my goal because by the end of the day whatever you’re doing is for you and your own benefit in its own form.
This book truly touches my heart because I love children and I can’t stand the idea of them being abuse or neglected. Children symbolize innocence, but Dave Pelzer was forced to think about life in views beyond his comprehension. I felt as if I was Dave as he questioned life and desperately trying to find himself through his issues.
I would recommend this book because it was an inspiring story and it surely is a reality check. Often times when people want to make a change they would think about helping third world countries. They fail to realize that people in their own community also need help and support. If you ever feel like the world is conspiring against you or need a little motivation then read this book. It will remind you that there will always be the less fortunate and how hard it takes for them to overcome their situations.

Dave Pelzer

I read this book called “The Lost Boy “Its about a boy that is resented by his family, day by day he gets to by his parents. He never had a place he could call home.

In the Lost Boy Dace Pelzer relives his life as a foster child, in and out of five different homes. People think that foster kids are unworthy of love, and resented his presence, forcing him to suffer, but still Dave never stop hoping and searching for love of a real family.

My favorite part of the book is when Dave finally got what he was looking for, that his life of pain and misery lead up too, someone that told him that they love and care about him, that they were proud of him.

My least favorite part was when he became the ward of the county but he felt bad because he hurt is mom, when he was the one trying to away from her, I don’t blame him, I know that he was scared for life, everyday ever second thinking that something went wrong because of him.

I highly recommend this book.

This is a very tough book to read, not because of the writing style, but the content. Knowing this is what some children go through makes one thankful for good parents. Dave's story is very moving, and many times deeply saddening. No child should ever have to experience this load.

The Lost Boy
A desperate boy in need for a home
tBoth emotional yet suspenseful The Lost Boy is by the author Dave Pelzer, The Lost Boy is an autobiography based in Daly City, California. The main characters are David Pelzer, Mrs. Pelzer, Alice, Aunt Mary, the Catanzes family, Nulls family, Jones family, Walsh family, and Ms. Gold. In this book David, had escaped his abusive and alcoholic mother and now resides in foster care where he moves back and forth between homes. David’s strength and determination kept him from dying in the hands of his mother. As the book progresses David takes you through the five foster families and his desperate determination to find “the love of a family”. In this emotional novel, David faces the following conflicts: person vs. society, person vs. self, and person vs. person.
tIn this emotional novel, David faces the following conflicts: person vs. society, person vs. self, and person vs. person. The Lost Boy shows person vs. society: every time a foster child leaves permanently from Aunt Mary’s home, if that child leaves any type of material like clothes, toys, and or other valuables they will never get it back. In this case David was against the other foster children because a child left the house and he wanted a head start on searching the room for his or her valuables. “I (David) learned that rather than walking a child to the car and wishing him or her good luck, I would instead say my good-byes in Aunt Mary’s home[…] and then stay close to the departing child’s room so I could have a head star on the other kids”(84). This demonstrates David’s plan so he can get a head start on the other foster children.
tIn addition to the conflict person vs. society The Lost Boy shows person vs. self. When David makes a decision to help John put out a school fire; instead he should’ve been trying to get help from teacher or an adult in the building. The effect of his ruthless action was severe and unthinkable. While David tried to help John put out the fire, “John’s face seized with terror…I saw his shadow disappear down the hall” (177). John ran leaving David by himself, David put out the fire but not in time to get himself out of trouble. The principal led him into his office and scolded him saying how David started the fire, when it was really John who did it. David made the wrong decision by trying to help John. The reason he did this was because John was cool at school and he thought that if he did this maybe John will hang out with him. Because of Davis’s actions he was placed in a juvenile center and soon he will be going to court.
t Finally, The Lost Boy features another conflict too add on top of Person vs. society and person vs. self. It is called person vs. person the event takes place when David accepts a challenge to steal Johnny Jones a B-17 Flying Fortress model airplane. Little did he know that Johnny was setting him up to get caught because he told his dad the store manager what David has been doing (stealing). As David headed out the store with B-17 Flying Fortress model airplane the store manager stopped him dead in his tracks.
“David”, Johnny howled,
“I’d like you… oh man, this is just too much!” he giggled
“I’d like you to meet my dad.”
“In an instant my feet transformed into solid blocks of ice. I turned to see a man in a red Walgreens vest with a name tag that read”
“Mr. Jones--- Store Manager” (155).
This quote show how David was set up to fail his challenge set up by Johnny.
tIn conclusion, in this this heart breaking novel, David has faced the following conflicts: person vs. society, person vs. self, and person vs. person. This reminds me when I was playing in my hockey game and I had to make a really tough decision. I was skating down the ice and my teammate was next to me close enough the pass, it was a lot of time left on the clock, and the only thing that stood between us and the goal was the goalie. I had to decide whether to shot or pass the puck. I took the shot and scored, but my teammate was disappointed in me for not passing the puck. I rate this book four stars out of five

Reading Response #16

I fell in love with this book. It was amazing. This book is a sequel to the first book called 'The Child Called It'. Some kids, teens or adults are afraid to talk about their abusive childhood past. The author does an autobiography about his past, how his mother made him drink washing detergent and make him vomit food. I cannot even imagine that this could even happen. Pelzer's father never bothered to help his own son, I cried when I read this book. It shocked me just to read how miserable he was. I take back all I said about my parents, despite how annoying they are, they only 'annoy' you because they love you, and they care about you. Without them, I do not know what to do in life. I would be lost. Pelzer never had anyone for support, until a nearby school helps.

I enjoyed this book very much. I would recommend this book to everyone. We should raise more awareness about this issue. So many kids all around the world gets beaten (physical abuse), verbally abuse..etc every day. I wouldn't ever be able to live like this. The author wrote this autobiography as an example of how some kids are treated in this world, they should be fearless and speak now before its too late. Some kids don't tell anyone about their abusive lives because they are scared that their parents or guardians would abuse them more. It kills me to see how innocent they are, and how mean, cruel are the parents. They have a very icy cold heart. I pity on the kids who are abused everyday.

2020-This book was hard to start for me. Seriously was almost exactly like a time from my own childhood. Ugh. Bad times. Had to stop and call my grandmother to discuss.

Once I recovered, I was touched by the challenges he went through. Trying to understand what everyone told him so survive must have been so confusing and overwhelming. I love the honestly of this, even when he was doing wrong. He owns his past in this! Overall, not as heartbreaking as the first one, but more ups and downs. He has heartbreaking times, and yet there is more hope in this one.
