Sorry, guys, I never really got the Kahlil Gibran thing. Sure, I know it's soothing and heartwarming and elegantly written spaghetti bolognaise for the soul and all, but... I found myself laughing in places the author never intended, and falling asleep over the rest of it. If Gibran's writing truly brings comfort to you, then I truly wish you the best and apologize for my levity, but what has to be said has to be said.

However, for those that love the work of this highly regarded (in certain circles) Lebanese poet/philosopher there's no denying this volume represents good value. A huge collection of writings in various genres, and if you want the definitive collection, this is the one to get. Those "on the fence", however, might want to check him out in smaller doses before they make up their minds.

After reading all Gibran's books in English at my school's library, I shall state that reading for Gibran is a mystic experience. It gave me heavenly vibes.
Concisely, it is a meditation on life, death, divinity, spirituality, materialism, internationalism,...
It is indeed thought provoking. He awakens your mind, shelters your body, and hugs your soul.
I have never read anything similar to his writings.
Kahlil Gibran is a Prophet to Literature.

I enjoyed The Prophet by this author, so when I saw this Treasury of almost all his other writing, I thought I'd give it a shot. I've been reading it a little at a time so I have time to digest all the individual tales, parables, and poems without them all running together. Gibran has thoughts about almost every subject and explains them all in great detail. :) He is a loving chap with good friends. He has a deep sense of right and wrong that didn't always match up with the religious leaders' ideas. He was man spiritual person who loved God, but he didn't believe that organized religion was working in the best interests of its people. He despised corruption and greed. I think I would've liked him. I placed sticky flags on all the pages and quotes that I loved and the book is a colorful rainbow now, so I won't be putting all of my favorites here. I will just say that all readers should have a little Gibran in their lives.

Timeless themes, beautiful writing. I especially love how he calls out religious hypocrisy while maintaining a sense of love and joy and tenderness.

This books introduced me to his writings. The melody of his words is seductive and my favorite poem is the one about Life of Love. The winter brought me to tears.

I added this to compensate for his book I read, Entitled 'The Earth Gods'. It was a little pretentious, but was good! Vaguely resembled Shakespeare, which was good and introduced intriguing concepts of belief.

One of my favorite writers. He has influenced so much of my thought processing with his words. His work tends to open up new channels of thinking on a soul level.

I am a stranger to myself, and when I hear my tongue speak, my ears wonder over my voice; I see my inner self smiling, crying, braving, and fearing; and my existence wonders over my substance while my soul interrogates my heart; but I remain unknown, engulfed by tremendous silence.
My thoughts are strangers to my body, and as I stand before the mirror, I see something in my face which my soul does not see, and I find in my eyes what my inner self does not find.

A beautiful book that I would call a reader's dessert. So much wisdom and beauty.

another representative of new age spirituality: maybe it's not so new age anyway--every generation thinks they found spirituality.
