Excellent easy-to-read version of the classic book. It kept me and my young ones enraptured, while also providing plenty of deep discussion points by being faithful to the original. The illustrations adeptly chose the right scenes to highlight to help the young imagination picture the nearby scenes described.

It offered our family the opportunity to discuss context about the original story - both in its strengths and weaknesses. My kids got caught up in the action of the story, and I appreciated having meaningful conversations about the importance of fair, accurate, and compassionate representation in literature. The dialogue was somewhat difficult to read out loud and some of the images were somewhat troubling for a younger audience. While not my favorite Illustrated Classic, I feel as though my opinion hinged more on my ambivalence to the original source material.

Everyone should have the opportunity to read this version of Moby Dick by candle light, in one sitting, and in front of a roaring fire while a 142 mph windstorm rages outside! My kids were hanging on every word and we all lost ourselves in the whaling adventure.

The original unabridged version of Moby Dick is very informative but I remember it containing so much whaling detail and being so dry in some parts that I thought it was both one of my favorite stories and one that I would never pick up again.

Want to re-visit a classic without having to feel self discipline kick in when you want to put it down? Read an illustrated classic :)

It's a classic, reread the same copy from when I was 8 or so with the kids.

A very captivating book from the start, especially with Queequegs character. However, this is not a children’s book I’d want a young child to read, it has many pagan influences and has the main character, a Christian, change his values and brush off Gods commandments. However, the story is very captivating, especially with the riddles Ahab was given about his own death and the death of Mobydick. Towards the end though, the plot went by very fast with little known resolution. This is the abridged version though, so I believe they did a good job summarizing the story.

I loved it! It was a great adventure story plus it gives a great reminder on how dangerous obsession can be.

Like all Great Illustrated Classics, a lengthy and complex tale is condensed down to the essentials of plot. Of course, the richness of Melville's language is lost, and the deeper thematic elements diminish, but it's a great entrance into a hard text for young readers. Tbh, if you are an adult reader who wants an "on ramp" before reading the full novel, this book can serve that purpose.

The Illustrated Classic Moby Dick By Shirley Bogart, is about a big albino baby whale named Moby Dick and the hunter Captain Ahab. Captain Ahab is hunting Moby Dick because Moby Dick took something of Captain Ahab's. Captain Ahab starts a trip and needs volunteers to go on board with him to hunt down Moby Dick. I really like this book because it follows the story and adds stuff to it to make it more hooking and interesting. It is the classic but cut down into a small book. What I didn't like about this book was it dragged on throughout the book which made it really slow. I think the life lesson is don't get revenge or your revenge will backfire.
