Lord of the Rings has been a real joy for me. Frodo's must destroy the one ring of the dark lord. He is taken on a adventure across the realm of middle earth. The epic war against orks. The battle between good and evil wizards. The evil twisted gollum who wants the ring. Its powers have demented him. From films to video games to action figures. The franchise is one of fantasy adventure. Like dungeons and dragons or pathfinder. Alot of fun to be in a land with friends. Outside or in mystic environment. Adventure or romance. Killing and Fucking.
My favoritestest series ever!!! I could lose myself in Middle Earth forever. I have read this series cover to cover during every life changing, painful period of my life. Yes, I have read it seven times.
this is a great book. If you like the lord of the rings movies and books you should read this. its the prequel to the story. Its all about how he got the ring and how it all started. tons of fighting and action but also at times calm. As you can tell from the title its about the hobbits but it also has the elves, dwarfs, and many other creatures. There is also a dragon and you get to meet gollum, the weird little creature that alway says "my precious", who at a time was also a hobbit untill he was cursed by the ring. this story tell of bilbo baggins adventure with the dwarfs and the all powerfull gandalf the grey. its a fast story with lots of surprises on every page. If you havnt read the lord of the rings yet i think you should the books are a lot better then the movie. Now if you have read the lord of the rings but didnt think to read the prequel, i think you sould. This is one of my favorite book the i would be happy to read again.
Overall 3 stars for the series. To begin with, it isn’t fully my taste of book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it still. However I liked the hobbit so much more than lord of the rings. Even with the movies lol, I wish there was less of lord of the rings and more of the hobbit. I just found lord of the rings really really boring and didn’t connect too much with the characters as much as I did with the hobbit. However I do love Sam and he deserves the entire world!
As this is my fourth or fifth read through of this book, I feel like I don't need to repeat myself and construct a long-winded review on how this is quite easily, my favourite set of books. Instead, I'm going to write a few words on how I feel right at this moment.
Coming to the end of LOTR feels like coming home to a comfortable chair, a warm mug of fine coffee, and a large slab of carrot cake with extra cream cheese frosting. It's rather like an old friend, and I'm positive it is one I will revisit, again and again throughout my life.
This particular time, I felt a deeper connection to the story and the characters, and I was totally immersed in every single chapter. It was difficult to tear myself away, even for a moment.
Gandalf and Éowyn will always have that special space in my heart. Her character often reminds me of myself, in many ways. (I also would have totally delivered that killing blow to The witch king).
Probably one of my favourite excerpts, that has stood the test of time;
"Arise, arise, riders of Rohan! Fell deeds awake, fire and slaughter! Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered! A sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now, ride to Gondor!"
In the final chapter or so, I'm not ashamed to admit that I found it difficult to hold back those bittersweet tears. What a wonderful world Mr John Ronald Reuel Tolkien created for us all to love and enjoy! I am so grateful that my wonderful Dad introduced me to Middle Earth at such a young age. Thank you Dad, you did well.
I figured to put the review of the whole series in here since I got this box set. Honestly, I have not read LOTR series before until now. I figured to cross that off my bucket list. Lol But I definitely enjoyed the story. Of course, Tolkien's writing style is a bit confusing, but I understood the plot of the story. And I enjoyed some scenes here and there, but most of all, the characters. I wished the dust jackets from each of the books were sturdy because every time I carry it around me, they rip easily.
And what made the story more easier and enjoyable are the illustrations by Alan Lee. I do recommend those who love a good, hardy adventure.
I read this, mainly through my break times during a vile summer job, when I was a student. Tolkien's classic helped to isolate the Trolls I was working with at the time.
