The end was good enough to make me want to read the second book. I’m hoping the first book was just building the foundation for soMething similar to the ending, continued. However the book dragged on too long in the middle. It did not need to be so long. I hope the next book will be more like Destination Void which even if long, was never dull.
This was difficult to follow. I don't believe I would have understood at all with listening to "Destination Void" (prequel). I realized late in the book that I couldn't empathize with any of the main characters. It was just a story. I might have just given up but how could anyone put stop listening to anything by the narrator, Scott Brick.
I was really enjoying this book but I was listening to the audiobook version of it and I found the reader to have a rather bland sounding voice and I wound up losing interest. I'll read it instead and see what I think. So far I found it pretty interesting.
This was a little less philosophical and a little more action-scifi than Destination Void, and this change of pace was not a benefit to the story. It starts off well, slags off a bit in the middle, and then rebounds at the end, but unfortunately not enough to be all that thrilling. It all felt a bit flimsy and insubstantial. Interesting environments. Engaging characters. Just missing something. Perhaps the rest of the series will redeem this part.
No where close to Dune, but it has its moments. The Jesus Incident is the crucifixion of Christ. Ship has first been made human and then becomes a deity. It is created. It meets another being on the planet Pandora. The people are faced with moral dilemmas and must learn how to WorShip. Interesting book but it will not be in my top ten or fifty Sci-Fi works.
Excellent classic sci-fi fantasy world of religion, segregation and the conflict between us and them. Power struggle between the elite and the collective.
