The book Conversations with J.K . Rowling is packed with information and even the small details are in this book. It talks you though her whole writing life and the life before that. J.K. Rowling was very influential and a big contribute to the world. I learned in the book that she contributed thousands of dollars to charities. I recommend this book to people who like harry potter.
This was definitely geared more towards children and it originally came out when I was that target audience (I don't know how I missed it!) but it was an interesting look into J.K. Rowling's life both pre- and post- Potter.
Very inspiring, short, and sweet book about J.K. Rowling's life, as well as her writing. I've been in a slump lately, and this was a nice little treat to pull me out of it. Now, I want nothing more to go and write to my heart's content.

The first third of the book was a conversation with JKR. It's interesting to see her thought process/what she says circa 2004/GoF. The middle section of the book was summaries of the first 4 HP books. Why????? Who is going to be interested enough in Harry Potter to pick up the author's biography that hasn't read the books??? The last bit was media sound bytes and quotes.
UPDATE: I legit forgot I had read this and I saw it ion my bookshelf recently and excitedly picked it up for a quick read. I got a sense of deja vu while reading but I figured it was because I've read so much about HP and Queen Jo. Turns out it's because I've read the book before lol.
J.K. Rowling is without doubt one of, the most successful writers of all time. Of course this was not always the case, indeed her beginnings were pretty ordinary and, like most successful people, there are many biographies already written, or in the processes of being written. And yet considering Rowling’s books are aimed primarily at children, although now read by everyone, there are no biographies aim at children. There is where 'Telling Tales - An Interview with J.K. Rowling' is so good.
The interviewer, Lindsey Fraser asks the sort of questions a young reader would ask. Questions like "who was your favourite teacher?” "Did you have any pets?" And, " Did you watch much Television as a child?" These questions are simple enough yet give an intriguing insight into the life and mind of this phenomenally successful author. The interview is followed by a short synopsis of the "Harry Potter' story so far. However, since book was written in 2000, it only covers the first three novels, although it does mention that there will be seven books in total. Indeed one of the questions the interviewer asks is whether or not Rowling will finish all seven. The answer is a resounding "absolutely - if only for myself." Thankfully for us all she did. This book, and indeed the others in the 'Telling Tales' series, makes an excellent introduction to the world of biographies and autobiographies for the younger reader. I would imagine this book is best for KS2 readers, although there are one or two words that even this age range may struggle with. Despite this minor point all in all, it's a good easy read.
I bought and read this years ago, when writing a paper on JK for school. Its a nice introduction to Jo's life, but for a more in-depth look there are definately better books out there.
