Although we could never really frame reality as perceived by those great mythological minds of archaic times, this book attempts to give us a sense of the mindset of those who invented the original celestial or cosmic myths. A brilliant work comparing and contrasting various mythologies around the world to reveal a tripartite world perspective that encompasses the stars, planets, and constellations in our galaxy.

Now that was a feat! Wow! This is a read filled to the brim and more with information and references that are just incredible. This is work that needs to be held in hand to fully delve into the richness of the proposed.
The format of the kindle version is unfortunately a bit iffy, for instance it does not provide translations of the Greek and Latin used (neither for the German or French but as I understand those, lucky me). Also the footnotes and references are only sometimes clearly differentiated from the main text which makes reading a bit like trying to keep up with the red thread as you can be pulled into the maelstrom rather quickly ...

Wonderful connections, not too much etymology( which can become a pain to dig through) but I would suggest at least a brief understanding of astronomy. But the book can be useful even while ignoring the connections made to the stars and precession.(Even though that's the main point of the book)
Overall enjoyable.

A fascinating study of ancient myths........yet its conclusions could be written on one page.

An incredible and very important work. Extremely dense, but worth the read.

All the stars, gods, and philology will make your head spin, but the authors make a good argument for a common prehistoric astronomical myth. Fascinating read that piqued my interest in ancient astronomy.

Very specialized, but really fascinating study of the origins of myths- strong on Gilgamesh.

Brilliant, flawed, and uneven. Worth reading because it is thought provoking, but the point is ultimately unproven. I would recommend this for poets more than for scholars. The pages are imbued with poetic thought.

Excelente investigación pero complicada lectura y demasiada información para llegar a la conclusión de que el tiempos arcaicos todas las culturas hablaban de lo mismo, el origen de nuestra existencia viene de las estrellas

I did not understand a lot of this book--I will have to read it again. But it felt like it was one of the most important books I've read.

Read it, then read The White Goddess, then read The Dawning Moon of the Mind, then read The Golden Bough, then read both volumes of Robert Graves, The Greek Myths, then read Gilgamesh, then breathe.

Brilliant! It needs a serious editing but it's one of the most well researched books I've ever read about the origins of civilization. There's nothing new age about this book. it describes the way that knowledge was passed along from generation to generation for thousands of years in myths. It shows that the knowledge in these myths had to do with ancient astronomy and mostly about the precession of the equinoxes. This is a book that you'll need to read again and again. Definitely not an easy read, but it is worth it.
