has something to do with being a theatre major i am sure but i really HATE the bard. with an effing passion. there were better authors in his time. he is sort of the stephen king of his day. he was simply the most prolific and best marketed of his day. scary to think that in the future people will count dan brown or stephen king as 20th century americas greatest authors simply by the volume of crap they can squeeze out.

The stories written by William Shakespeare is the best. This one has all the stories and drama that Shakespeare has written.

Puține lucruri pe lumea asta iubesc cu toată inima, iar piesa asta e una dintre ele!

FIRST READ-THROUGH COMPLETE - This is the next play I'll be in and I could not be more excited. It's an incredible and outrageously funny script :D

Very enjoyable read and I can't wait to see how this plays out as my school's fall production!

If you know Shakespeare (and let's face it everyone has a basic knowledge from school etc) and a sense of humour you can't fail to laugh out loud at some of the bits in this play. Whether you think he was a genius or tedious it will amuse you. Obviously the more you know the more you will get out of it. The appeal of the book over the stage show (which has 8/9 year olds in hysterics) is that there are appendices and footnotes.

Funny and a good waste of time, enjoyable and would recommend as a read for not-much-else-to-do days

I suppose my rating really does depend on what play is being reviewed. For example, I love MacBeth... everyone I know prefers Hamlet, but I like that MacBeth has a strong female character. Othello is another of my favorites, and I liked Pericles. I could leave A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Merchant of Venice, however. Shakespeare's tragedies are beautiful, but I always had a hard time getting behind his comedies.

Quite fun! I've got this glorious stage play nearly memorized by now, but oh! these footnotes! Positively delightful. Necessary for any RSC* fan or Shakespeare buff, even if the play is familiar and only the footnotes and back matter are new.

*That's the Reduced Shakespeare Company, of course!

Cute conceit. Parts feel horribly dated now, but could be easily modified for a current production.
