Whoever denies having evil traits and claim being a good person should read this book; he or she would discover that they already apply many of the described laws. But if you believe that you are an evil person, this book will show you that there are people out there who are more evil and cunning than you are, and you may want to include some of theses laws to your techniques to keep yourself safe. Moreover, if you think that people are innocent and you have high expectation about them, then this book may adjust your life view with some doses of reality.

I found the first chapters very engaging, while I faced some resistance to complete the book when I was reading the middle chapters. I felt that the book was very evil for me to finish it. It was a heavy read as I always have high expectation of people and I cannot imagine they will even make "extensive plans" for wrong doings. In spite of that resistance in reading, I could adjust myself to the book. I reflected about how my intuition operate when I detect red flags about people similar to those described in the book, I could see that I myself use some of the described techniques too, and I could tell that many individuals who have reached high positions and statuses (even holy religious and spiritual figures) use some of these laws to survive or attain deserving or undeserving ends. The book came to be not totally evil at all.

Hosted in Joe Rogan's podcast, the author said that he wanted to write a real and practical self-help book. Many implications in the book are not purely evil. Some historical facts stated show how historical figures like emperors and warriors used these laws to achieve peace and prosperity for their people. Some plots, for example, goes in parallel with the advice "work smart, not hard". Moreover, the book gives good examples of historical female figures who were successful in attaining status and power, which might be inspirational and appealing for some female readers.

Probably the most important lesson I learnt from this book is that there exist a form of knowledge that is unreasonable and cannot be attained with reason. Even in communication and when we want to convey certain messages or instructions, verbal and reasonable means are not the only method, and not necessarily the right one, to achieve things.

I won't recommend this book to anyone. I would give it five stars and keep my personal copy in my home library.

This is like a how-to manual for sociopaths. My office is full of them.

The most useful part of this book is that you might more quickly identify the type of sociopaths who circlejerk over stuff like this in your workplace. Usually the same sort who got their online MBA writing thesis papers on books like this one, the art of war, and seven habits of highly effective people.

Every one of the 48 rules of power has an example of "obeying the rules: great success" and "didn't obey the rule, probably died a miserable failure". All of these examples are generally from like 900AD and involve politics from the 4th dynasty of Burma or some stupid irrelevant shit like that.

The author has an attitude that everyone is a horrible person who is out to get you if you don't do so first, and his contempt for people seeps through when he constantly refers to people who don't play the power game as "fools" and "suckers".

If you've ever used the term "cats-paw" unironically, you might enjoy this book!

Quite a fun run, as long as you don't expect too much.
This is not another "Prince", neither it is a guidebook for business people or executives.
It's just a collection of anecdotes from the past ages that depict some pathological behaviors that in the end paid off (or not, but they've at least provided a lesson).

What makes it fun? Two things:
1. Mimetics. Mapping these "laws" onto other events/situations (from the world of politics, celebrities, business)
2. Some of the stories brought up are really interesting. But this is not a history textbook! Don't expect detailed references or a fully objective perspective - the stories have to illustrate the thesis and that's the author's priority here

In the end - I had a good time. 3.8 star-level "good".

A book of wisdom, a compilation of tactics, hordes of to-avoid mistakes, rich set of brilliant tested ideas for thriving.

Although many of the rules might seem devilish, they'd better be considered as lessons to be aware of in perilous social life.

This book is unspeakably well written. Everyone can definitely benefit having it read for its lessons are ones that have been tested and utilized throughout the history by bold figures.

I really enjoyed this book and learned an intense amount of knowledge.

Now here is the thing about this book; it's mean, it's ruthless but it's all true.

At the very first pages I was like 'this writer right here teaches us to lie, and to manipulate people'. when I continued reading I found out that some of the laws he's talking about are already implemented around us by people we know.

Some skills are born with us, some are learned. this book is an eye opening to what goes around us and how people with certain skills get what they want.
The book usually uses the term "enemies", which makes you think that it's written for war purposes. well, it can be used for everything. depending on how ruthless you want to deal with the people around you.

It's a guide that can be used. However I don't agree with all of it, but I found it very useful for success.

One more comment I have is that some of the laws actually contradict each other. Like it first tells you to 'sit on the shoulders of the giants', and then it says don't complete what others has started because you'll never be as good as them.
Also, he tells you to court attention at all costs, then he tells you to use absence to increase respect and honor.

All in all it was a good read and highly recommended, if not for practicing the laws then only for the sake of knowing them.

I first heard about this book on a youtube video by Daily Stoic. I then heard that it’s the most commonly banned book in American prisons.

Talk about an intriguing logical gap. Now I really had to find out what the fuzz was about. What in the world connects stoic philosophy to gang violence in prison?

The answer, I found, is Yoda from Star Wars.

Now this might come across as a surprise, but I strongly hold that my analogy is a good one. Let us first consider Yoda; he is green. Now consider the author; he is Greene.

Even more, Yoda is very smart and says many philosophical things. Greene is also very smart and wrote a book about 48 philosophical things.

The only difference, found amid all these striking similarities, perhaps even creating the illusion that they were indeed the same, is that Yoda creates heroes while Greene creates brutal manipulative crazy ass psychopaths.

In short, this is a self-help book for satanists. I hope Jørgen comes to Drammen soon so that I might try these evil tricks on him. I’m going to start with law 40: “Despise the Free Lunch”. Take that, Jørgen! You are never buying me lunch again!

I’m glad to have read it though. I think it makes us aware and puts us on guard against guileful behavior. Still, it’s by no means a work of genius. It stands out mostly because of its unorthodox tone, not its brilliant ideas.
