What a great Western story! I picked this audio book up at the library and was not disappointed. Only 4.5 hours long, this story made my commute to and from work enjoyable. I actually could not wait to get in the car to listen to another great Western by Louis L’Amour. When I got out of the car I felt like I need to brush off the dust and check the car of bullet holes. This Western has it all and that is what made it such a great story. The characters were great, Conn Dury and his history, Kate Lundy and her strength, Tom Lundy and his youthfulness, and the rest of the cowboys from the Tumbling B. The villains are good as well, Linda and Aaron McDonald are just plain out mean, the Dutchman has a one track mind when it comes to killing and the other bad guys you just love to hate. The settings from Kansas to Texas and even Europe were great. This is a great Western read from the best of Western writers!
When I read for entertainment, other than to learn, broaden my understanding, underline, take notes, and or seek God, the classic western is a really good place to lose myself in, and authors like Louis L'Amour make it easy. His is the style of the fireside story teller, and stories of when the nation was young, wild and free of modern encumbrances.
It may just be me being overly sentimental about my dad’s favorite author, but I don’t think I’ve read a Louis L’Amour book (and I think I’ve read them all at least once) I didn’t at least like. Always a good story, always feeling like the real deal. When I think of western novels, only Louis comes to mind.
Kiowa Trail is a prime example of a L’Amour book - strong, capable characters striving to live in the harsh conditions of a lawless land, doing what they must to survive, tightly written without a lot of meandering or romantic baloney that ruins many other western authors for me. A+
Had not read a L'amour story in a while. This was a good one to start with. Good story that moves quickly. Brave hearted and honest man. Beautful and strong heroine. Real bad guy. What more could you ask for in a couple hour read.
Pretty standard of a Western novel. You get exactly what you're bargaining for. Enjoyable read front to back and gets straight to the point with action.
