"John" in the reviews made the comment, "Initially a superior revenge Western, KIOWA TRAIL comes unglued in the third act once cheesiness and lazy writing take hold." That is a perfect description. L'Amour is a great storyteller - I wish the ending was tighter.

The narrative felt a little disjointed by some of the flashbacks, and there were a couple of plot conveniences that strained credibility. Still, it was another solid Western from one of the genre’s masters.

If you like stories about good guys who kick butt and get the girl and the bad guys who get it in the end, read Louis L'amour. He also has a knack for describing scenery, and every canyon, spring, etc. he mentions truly exists. He was a great authority on the American Wild West which is not quite how Hollywood often portrays it.

A woman cattle owner, her foreman, and their cowhands sell their herd, but then one, the owner's son, disobeyed the rule of the townsfolk and is killed. Thus begins the revenge tale of an eye-for-an-eye justice.

I really enjoy the concise writing---the preciseness--in setting up the story and running with it without the flowery and often unneeded details others often use.

This another enjoyable L'Amour western where the guy gets the girl at the end of the story. Fun to read with great action and L'Amour has always had a very engaging writing style. Highly recommended!

This book was recommended by a dear friend who is a fan of Louis L'amour. This was my first Louis L'amour book and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I am a fan of westerns; movies & tv, but I had never read a western novel. Beautifully written. Poetic. Grand, breath-taking, formidable journey...

I had a bit of trouble following this one but Dale kept me posted. There was a strong hate towards the Texans and this story revealed how that hatred became a tool.

Every time I read a novel by Louis L'Amour, I am reminded why he is the King of Westerns. His novels are not of the "cookie-cutter" variety and this novel is vintage L'Amour. It is a story of revenge, and the strength of one woman's resolve to avenge the death of her young brother. But it is L'Amour's skillful use of flashback sequences which defines this book. The tale is actually told from the point-of-view of a man whose parents were killed causing him to spend three years living with Apaches, as well as time in Europe and as a Union Officer in the Civil War. It is his story as much as hers and it should be obvious that this is a complicated plot. But L'Amour successfully pulls it off. L'Amour's storys are always "real" in that the locations are real places and many of the characters are historical. Few historians are as knowledgable of this era as L'Amour, and it shows in his novels. Enjoy reading Kiowa Trail!
