I'm torn a little on this book. There are some very great ideas presented here about leadership. They are worth reading. However the author comes across as a major Lincoln sycophant and really that's a little off-putting. The Lincoln was the best ever at ___ tends to get a little overused and over sold. The author admits to some of the extra-constitutional things that Lincoln did, that they weren't legal and then brushes them off as necessary and that Lincoln was just smarter than the rest of us. In the end, the leadership principles are great, the presentation of them was so Lincoln worshipping that it became a distraction.

I read this for a MBA class and it is another exammple of why Lincoln is timeless. Great book, great lessons. I have recommended it numerous times and it is one of those business books that I don't think I could have broken it down, written notes in the margins and highlighted any more!

All around great book, learned a lot about Lincoln. Perfect length, not too wordy and not too brief. Good use of stories and quotes from him and his friends.

Reads like a Brian Tracy business book, with a deep-dive case study into one incredible leader: Lincoln.

There are some slow parts - sure, just as with any block-buster movie. But where it’s good, it’s REALLY good. Powerful messages from a president who had to overcome the most rough time in all of US history - the Civil War - and come out victorious. He was hated by many, but that didn’t stop him from fighting for what he believed in. The portion about how he found general Ulysses S. Grant after going through many “impeccably credentialed” generals, who looked better on paper but who couldn’t perform in the battlefield, is an especially stark reminder: that the key executives in one’s business are often the most unexpected performers, who evolve into their roles when their company and leaders needs them the most.

Hire for TALENT , HEART, and DEDICATION TO THE MISSION, not for glittering pedigrees and/or resumés!

A friend of mine bought this for my birthday. It is one of her all time faves. As someone who reads a lot this was a good book. I enjoyed the stories and learning about Lincoln more than I enjoyed the lessons per se. One can definitely over index on leadership books and the way you should lead. Its good for folks who want or need checklist on how to be a good leader. Its a good reminder for those in leadership roles. I commend the author for the amount of research that went into this book. The quality of the work shows.

This book was recommended to me by my Police Chief. I quickly learned that many of the leadership principles he has exhibited over the years are expressed in LINCOLN ON LEADERSHIP. This is a quick read, which makes it much easier to absorb the principles. What I valued most is the explanation on Lincoln's philosophy on personal communication and the section on finding that person or people to be your Grant (people who will accomplish the mission & works toward the vision). LINCOLN ON LEADERSHIP is a great read for all!

We can learn a lot from history and President Lincoln was a great leader. This is a non-fiction book on President Lincolns leadership skills and the strategies he used to become a great leader. The author tells how we can relate the leadership skills that Lincoln used to todays life. The author, Donald T Phillips quotes "the best leaders never stop learning".

This book had a lot of good information about how to be a good leader but this was not a very interesting book. Being a 8th grader, this made it very hard to read. I only gave this book 3 stars because it has a lot of good information, but is a boring book that I did not enjoy.

Worst book I've ever read. Wish I could give it 0 stars. Couldn't even finish it was the worst!

Listened on Audible.
I initially borrowed this from the library, but I had only read about a third of it before I had to return it. I eventually bought the Audible and listened until about two thirds of the way through before I took a break and listened to Manhunt: The Twelve Day Chase For Abraham's Killer. Then I returned and finished Lincoln On Leadership.
I really love this book, but the audio version is difficult to listen to. I definitely recommend the print version unless you're the type who can listen to a book intended to be studied. For an example of how this book does not translate well to audiobook: Every chapter begins with a quote and ends with a review of quotes in the form of "Lincoln's Principles," but with the audiobook, these run together, because the quote at the start of the chapter is read before the chapter number and title.
There are many principles that Lincoln held to that I wish we saw more of today. It was funny to hear that in the 1860s President Lincoln preferred to be silent in public due to the media scrutinizing and misinterpreting every little thing that was said.
It was a little bit scary to see so many parallels from issues in Lincoln's time to modern issues. Truly an incredible President.
And breaking from this to read Manhunt was heartbreaking because Manhunt begins by recounting the day of Lincoln's assassination. Although sad, I highly recommend that book as well.
I think I'd really have to read the physical book to get the most out of Lincoln On Leadership and give it a worthwhile review. There are so many bits that have slipped past me as I was listening while simultaneously doing other things. Definitely a book for the shelf, and worthy of highlighting from beginning to end.

This book breaks down great principles of leadership which can be utilized in whatever field you operate in. I began adopting these principles in ministry. Some sections can be a little dry but it is a fairly short read. Really good book.

I really liked this one. Of all the leadership books I’ve read recently this is the most straightforward actionable one with practical advice and examples of how Lincoln applied it. It was revealing of Lincoln himself, both in his humanity and his greatness.
