I’m not sure John C. Maxwell ever wrote a book not worth your time, and this one is no exception. I’ve been familiar with this work through his other books plus my Leadership Study Bible that features the 21 Laws throughout, however never read the actual book. I say that to say, with my familiarity this book wasn’t life changing but did serve as a good reminder with many key takeaways throughout. Worth the read for any level of leader and/or any person wanting to make a difference in the lives of others.

There is a lot of questions. Not ideal for a read by yourself. The workbook is good if you have a group. Or at least, someone to bounce idea's off from.

This book focuses on leadership and the qualities and behaviours a leader needs to be successful. The format is 21 chapters, one per law.

To bolster the laws, a series of real world anecdotes are presented. But in most cases, the anecdotes are not drawn from the author's personal experience. Instead he uses iconic historical figures (Churchill, MLK) to make examples in terms that are familiar to the audience. But the problem with this plan is that it means he is not always able to be specific. In general while the anecdotes are interesting and engaging, they don't add very much value at all.

Like most business books, the useful content is far less than the 250+ pages involved. There is really about 50 pages of good material here, spread out across 200 more pages of filler.

Despite this, the actual content is pretty good, and the laws do seem important and well-chosen. They do seem to be good guidance and match my (much more limited) experience.

Worth reading, rapidly.

One of the de facto books on leadership by undoubtedly one of the foremost masters on the subject!

I loved the examples of leader's stories in the book. They make for an interesting read. I also liked the "how to apply" section of each law. Overall good read and reference.
