This book seems to have a lot of interesting elements. The combination of a little girl and her big sister as BFFs is heartwarming. The "Flash Forward" talky talk adds an element of mystery and anticipation. The presence of loyal pets and mythology gives the story more depth and charm. However, the inconsistencies might be a bit of a drawback. Overall, it sounds like a book that could be quite engaging and enjoyable to read.

Even though I didn't exactly fall head over heels in love with the first novel of this series, I simply couldn't resist the urge to discover what would unfold for Alanna. Would her closely guarded secret be exposed? Would she experience the tender pangs of love? And would she at long last come face to face with her arch nemesis, Roger?

Well, you'll just have to pick up book 2 to find out, won't you?

Regrettably, I discovered that book 2 was marred by many of the same problems that had irked me in book 1. To begin with, it seemed as if numerous details or crucial scenes were either brushed over or merely mentioned in passing rather than being fully explored within the story. The timeline advanced in huge leaps and bounds, and not always in a particularly clear fashion. All things considered, it just gave the impression that there was a much grander, more extensive story that could have been told, but it had been pared down to the absolute minimum or perhaps never properly developed in the first place in order to keep the length concise. For instance, I found myself extremely frustrated by the so-called "romantic" developments within the novel, as this was essentially glossed over and boiled down to just a few sentences. I simply would have preferred to see more - more romance, more explanation, more magic, and more overall story development and detail.

Although I'm glad to have continued this series to learn more about Alanna's fate, I'm not certain that I'll be reading any further. With the proliferation of so many "young adult" books that are also targeted at an adult audience, I realize that my expectations for this book might have been different from what it actually warranted. Ultimately, I think that this series does possess its own merits, but in the final analysis, I believe it is much better suited for enjoyment by its intended audience: older children and young adults.

Bottom Line: Likely to be most enjoyed by young girls. At least, I'm fairly certain that I would have liked it a great deal more when I was around 12 years old.

Alanna's story has a tendency to skip time rather frequently.

It only focuses on the significant events as the passage of time occurs.

This approach sometimes gives the book a sense of being rushed.

I have a wish that certain aspects could have been more fully developed and detailed.

However, despite these drawbacks, the story remains just as captivating as I recall it being during my childhood.

The overall charm and allure of the narrative still manage to draw the reader in and hold their attention.

Even with the time skips and the areas that could have used more expansion, there is something about Alanna's tale that continues to resonate and engage.

It shows that despite its imperfections, the story has a certain magic that endures and makes it a memorable read.

Perhaps it is the characters, the setting, or the overall theme that keeps the reader hooked, but whatever it is, it is clear that Alanna's story still has the power to charm and delight.
