Finally, I got around to finishing this classic. It was a great experience. I'm not entirely sure if I'll continue reading more related works. The reason is that I really like the standalone story that this particular one held. It had its own charm and completeness. However, we shall see if I can stay away from Pug and his companions for long. This book is truly an absolute masterpiece. Although it may have some minor flaws or moments where it falters, they are not significant enough for me to say anything other than that it was a perfect read. It has captured my imagination and left a lasting impression. I'm looking forward to seeing what else the author has in store.
3.75 stars | I liked this part more than the first, but still not enough to give it a full 4 star. It was a significant improvement in some aspects.
“You know what it is to laugh at death, Arutha. You’ll never be the same man again.”This quote really stuck with me and added depth to the story.
One of my biggest complaints about the first part was the lack of magic. Fortunately, this volume did not suffer from that issue. It was great to learn more about the two worlds, and I felt a stronger connection with the characters. Their development was quite interesting to follow.
However, I found some parts of the story to be a little boring. Also, the fact that the story jumped ahead almost 15 years was both a good and a bad thing. It was great to see the characters grow and develop, but sometimes it felt a bit rushed. I wished the author had taken more time to describe some of the situations. It was a bit strange to see some of the characters who started as children now married with kids.
The ending was great, and it left me eager to read the next book in the series. However, I suspect I won't get around to it until the beginning of next year. Overall, it was a solid read with its pros and cons.
