Twenty years have passed, and rereading Bleach in its original, nascent form is truly mind-blowing! Bleach was an incredibly significant part of my childhood. The journey from where it began to where it ultimately led was a huge adventure. These initial few stories are the ones that truly linger in your mind, even after all these years. It's fascinating to see the humble beginnings of a series that would go on to become so beloved. The characters, the plotlines, and the overall atmosphere were all so captivating right from the start. Rereading it now allows me to relive those precious memories and gain a new appreciation for the genius behind the creation of Bleach.

So here's the conundrum.

I was informed by numerous people that one only needs to read/watch up to the end of the Soul Society Arc, as the series rapidly declines after this volume. However, that ending was insufficiently satisfying for me to simply abandon Bleach entirely.

I do possess other books to peruse and school work to attend to, so I am unsure whether I will continue reading Bleach at present. I am contemplating the possibility of commencing the anime and watching it to the conclusion, and if I sense the necessity to read the manga, I will complete it.

I just don't feel adequately fulfilled to simply discard Bleach and never resume it because the series deteriorates over time.

It's a tough decision to make. On one hand, I have other obligations and interests. On the other hand, I don't want to give up on Bleach too soon. I guess I'll have to wait and see how I feel after watching the anime. Maybe it will give me a new perspective on the series and help me decide whether to continue with the manga or not.

Only time will tell.

Still really fun for a manga that’s nearly as old as I am!

This manga has truly stood the test of time. Despite being around for almost as long as I have been alive, it continues to bring joy and entertainment.

The storylines are engaging, filled with interesting characters and exciting adventures. The art style is unique and has its own charm, adding to the overall appeal of the manga.

Even after all these years, I can still pick up a volume and get lost in its pages. It’s amazing how something so old can still feel so fresh and relevant.

Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the world of manga, this one is definitely worth checking out. You might just be surprised at how much fun it can be!

Aizen has now fully exposed himself, and that entire volume was truly remarkable. Ichigo found himself completely helpless to prevent anything. This was something we needed as he had experienced too many victories lately, and now it's time for him to return to being the underdog.

All of the captains had some truly awesome moments. Their skills and abilities were on full display, making the battles intense and exciting. Aizen, on the other hand, just proved to be a great villain. His cunning and power were overwhelming, and he seemed to always be one step ahead of everyone else.

The story continues to unfold in a thrilling way, leaving us eager to see what will happen next. Will Ichigo be able to find a way to overcome Aizen and save the day? Or will Aizen's evil plans succeed? Only time will tell.

Unexpected things happened.

Life is full of surprises, and sometimes the most unexpected events can occur. It could be a sudden change in plans, an unforeseen encounter with someone, or a turn of events that completely alters the course of our lives.

These unexpected things can bring a mix of emotions. There may be shock, confusion, or even excitement. They have the power to disrupt our daily routines and force us to adapt and find new ways to deal with the situation.

However, unexpected things also have the potential to lead to growth and new opportunities. They can push us out of our comfort zones and make us discover strengths and abilities we never knew we had.

In conclusion, while unexpected things can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming, they are also an inevitable part of life. We should embrace them with an open mind and be ready to face whatever comes our way.

Given that Manga, and especially Shonen, is often divided into larger arcs rather than just volumes, I will be analyzing and reviewing this by Arc.

I also reread this manga over a span of 2 months, sometimes reading as many as 100 chapters a day. It would be quite tiresome for me to review each 7 - 8 chapter volume. So this format will be used throughout all of the 72 manga volumes.

That being said, if you're looking at this without having seen the series... spoiler warning. I don't recap everything, but I do mention events that occur. If you want to know the answer to the question "Should I pick this up?" The answer is yes. Even if you stop at the end of the Soul Society Arc, it's worth it.

Karakura Town Arc - Chapters 1 - 56 - Rating: 7/10
(The official page combines this with the Soul Society Arc, but I believe they are two distinct arcs with different themes)
- It's a fun introduction.
- The concept of ghosts and demons (Hollows) is interesting.
- It does a good job of introducing the characters. I especially liked the love for characters like Chad, Orihime, and Uryu, as these characters would receive less spotlight as the series progressed.
- It has a bit of a monster-of-the-week feel. When it works, like with Chad's introduction story, it's great. But characters like Don Kanonji felt superficial and gimmicky.

Soul Society Arc - Chapters 57 - 182 - Rating: 10/10
- This is the height of Bleach.
- It seemingly establishes an afterlife perfectly. Later, it's revealed to have plot holes and not be fully fleshed out, but that's not a problem in this arc. The fights are top-notch, and the themes of Ichigo owing a life debt to Rukia and his passion and determination to rise above God's army are inspiring. To this day, this is why I love Ichigo so much. He doesn't have a grand plan or a major goal to achieve. He's a protector at heart, and losing his mother has made him bitter about failing to protect those he cares about. He'll do anything in his power never to feel that helpless again.
- The twist near the end of this arc is revolutionary and would have an impact on the next 200 chapters. It's a perfect ending and setup for the upcoming arc.
- The only issues I have with this arc are Ichigo's lightning-fast progression. He goes from barely being able to defeat a third seat to besting multiple captains in about 100 or fewer chapters. I understand the point, and his defeats of the captains were more due to luck, but in terms of progression and pacing, it feels very unearned and like a factor of "for the plot, he needed to be this strong." It only seems so fast because Ichigo's progression slows down significantly for the rest of the story.
- Also, like in most Shonen, there are a lot of characters introduced here. There are 13 captains, 13 vice-captains, and seats that go all the way to 10, I think. Regardless, there's a large cast, and it can be a bit overwhelming at times. Fortunately, Kubo does a great job of making their designs and characters unique.

Hueco Mundo Arc - Chapters 183 - 423 - Rating 7/10
- Personally, I would split this arc into two separate arcs. But for the sake of this review, I'll refer to the first half and the second half. The first half is 9/10, and the second half is 5/10.
- The first half of this arc is a great continuation of the last. Ichigo now struggles with his inner demons, which affects his ability to protect those he loves. We're also introduced to new, deadly villains, the Arrancars/Espada, who remain one of my favorite villain factions in all of manga.
- Just to let you know, I would say the first half of this arc ends around the point of Ichigo vs Grimmjow. Grimmjow is one of the first Arrancar that Ichigo faces, and he's also one of two Espada that he faces three times. The conclusion of that fight shows Ichigo conquering his inner demons. For Grimmjow, the fight is personal as he has to prove himself to his fallen comrades. For Ichigo, saving Orihime is within his reach, and he sees this as his "final" battle. It's my favorite fight in all of Bleach.
- However, in my opinion, this is where the quality starts to decline. We had a goal and were working towards it, but somewhere along the way, it became more of a fighter fest. Captains faced enemies with no themes or character revelations. The Espadas' backstories were lacking, and their fights weren't as compelling. You almost feel bad for them as they were turned into a military force by an unstoppable tyrant.
- This brings me to the end. I won't say it wasn't satisfying that Ichigo was able to defeat Aizen, and I do think his new power was earned through 3 months of training. But it was clearly a last-minute decision to save Aizen for a later date, and the show had to go on. I don't think it was as satisfying as the 200+ chapter buildup deserved.

The Fullbring Arc - Chapters 424 - 479 - Rating: 8/10
- This is a very underrated arc. I acknowledge that rating-wise, I think the Fullbring arc is better than the Hueco Mundo arc, although I like the first half of the Hueco Mundo arc more. The end of the HM arc really brought it down for me. The Fullbring arc is much more concise and is essentially an Ichigo getting his powers back arc, but that doesn't mean it's bad.
- When I originally read it in 2010 (because I'm old), it wasn't amazing. In fact, I hated it. But wouldn't you? It took almost a year to get to the point we were at. However, upon rereading it, I appreciated the attention it gave to the characters who hadn't received much love in a while, the original cast. It was a very character-focused arc, and Ichigo seemed more human than ever.
- That being said, the end was very rushed, which was a disappointment for me. The villains this time were humans, and the characters who had the most connection to them were the original cast, who were also humans. So having the soul reapers, who had no connection to the fullbringers, show up and defeat most of them felt very forced and like fanservice to me.

The Thousand Year Blood War Arc - Chapters 424 - 689 - Rating: 5/10
- And here we are, at the final and largest arc in the Bleach story. And unfortunately, it doesn't quite land.
- That being said, this arc has some great moments. Kenpachi's Shikai and Bankai, Ichigo's double swords, Renji's true Bankai, Rukia's Bankai, and many more. However, they are part of the most breakneck-speed arc I've ever read. Kubo was very ambitious when he introduced 26 new villains, but most of them got very little screen time, and many were even defeated off-screen by higher-level captains.
- Yhwach himself was a great villain but was dealt with too quickly and, in my opinion, unfairly.
- There was just something off about this arc. The mood changed, and it was very noticeable. The villains had random powers that didn't seem to reflect their personalities or needs. The finale felt very underwhelming.
- Ichigo gets to be the strongest he's ever been, but he doesn't defeat a single person other than the main villain, despite being in several fights.
- It's not a good arc. In fact, I would say it's the worst. Hopefully, the anime will do a better job with this already huge story. 260 chapters is no small feat.

This gives the story of Bleach an overall rating of 7.4/10, which I think is above average. It has its ups and downs and isn't perfect, but when it's good, it's peak shonen. But when it's bad, it's very forgettable.

My love for manga is growing stronger with each passing day, and I'm looking forward to many more great volumes to come.

5 stars. This is an easy conclusion to draw. What a fight it was! Wow! Aizen is truly a villain. I can't help but wonder how he managed to recruit his two lackeys. Are they perhaps hypnotized? Also, I had a hunch that someone had been playing around with hollows. I don't know the details of how he's been collaborating with them, but they are definitely the bad guys now. I'm glad that once the communication took place, the soul reaper leadership sided with Rukia.

Because of what happened to Rukia, Ichigo now has a hollow side within him. I loved how so much was revealed in this volume, yet there are still so many questions that need answers. It's really exciting!

PS: Aizen is extremely overpowered and will only get stronger. I'm curious to see what Ichigo will have to endure and go through in order to reach that level. This was a great volume and an amazing end to a sick arc!

Holy shit! A twisty twist volume with everything coming undone.

This is truly great, to be honest. With the revelation of the true bad guy, we are treated to a non-stop chase as everyone attempts to stop him. All the fighting ceases once the villain shows their true face, and when he does, he proves to be stronger than almost anyone present. The brutal "fights", if I can even call being defeated in two seconds a fight, along with some amazing twists that help elevate multiple characters, make this easily the best volume yet.

I'm about to venture into unknown territory with Bleach soon, but this is some of the best stuff in this series. It's well worth the build-up. I would rate it a 4.5 out of 5.

The anticipation for what's to come is palpable, and I can't wait to see how the story unfolds further. The twists and turns keep me on the edge of my seat, and I'm eager to discover what new surprises await in the next volumes.

Bleach has always been a captivating series, and this volume is no exception. It continues to deliver excitement, action, and engaging characters that keep me coming back for more.

Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this volume and look forward to experiencing the rest of the journey in the Bleach universe.
