Piers Anthony has written many books, and one of his better ones is about the interaction between the point-of-view (POV) character and a highly intelligent alien species.

These aliens view omnivores like humans as the most dangerous and least trustworthy of all intelligent species. They have their own set of beliefs and values that are very different from those of humans.

The POV character finds himself in a difficult situation as he tries to gain the respect of these aliens in order to protect the human race. He must navigate their complex social structure and understand their way of thinking in order to prove that humans are not as bad as they seem.

Throughout the story, the POV character faces many challenges and obstacles as he tries to bridge the gap between the two species. Will he be able to succeed in winning the respect of the aliens and saving the human race? Only time will tell.

What on earth did I just finish reading?

It was truly some of the most misogynistic and bizarrely composed drivel I have ever come across. The quality of the writing was abysmal, with the characters being not only pathetic but also ridiculously horny for no apparent reason.

Moreover, the ending failed to deliver any real satisfaction. This is a prime example of a subpar 60's sci-fi piece that should have remained firmly in that era.

This is a story that involves very hard work yet is also extremely interesting. The world-building is quite amazing, although it starts off rather slowly. Essentially, it is a story divided into 4 parts and told by 3 humans who were trapped in an alien eco-system filled with various forms of fungi. Some of these fungi are animate and cognitively advanced. The 4th part is told from the investigator's perspective, with some input from the intelligent fungus, the Mantas.

My enjoyment of this story is definitely influenced by my 2022 eyes reading 1968 science fiction. However, I did find the entire thing quite fascinating. I'm not certain if I have the energy to complete the trilogy, though.

The main characters include Vachel 'Veg' Smith, Aquilon 'Quilon', Cal, and Subble. Each of them plays an important role in this unique and captivating story.

Overall, despite its slow start, the story has many elements that make it worth exploring further. Whether or not I will continue with the trilogy remains to be seen, but for now, I can appreciate the effort and creativity that went into creating this interesting world.
