There's a significant drop in quality.

Not only is there a lack of focus on the games themselves, but also on the development of the characters. We find ourselves in a situation where we don't know the reasons or the ways in which Hikaru grows.

Consequently, it becomes increasingly difficult for us to empathize with him. Why is he growing? How does he manage to reach the 16th position in Group A?

To summarize briefly, Hikaru somehow manages to rise through the Insei groups and suddenly becomes good enough to enter the Young Lions Tournament.

There is a golden opportunity for him to actually play against Akira, but unfortunately, he fails.

Although he turns around a bad position, he closes the game poorly.

Anyway, I firmly believe that there were far better ways to write this evolution, and there are numerous missed opportunities.

On the second reading, it seems that my initial reading was spot-on.

The quality has indeed dropped, there is a lack of focus, and Hikaru's advancement is way too abrupt.

Perhaps Yumi Hotta didn't have sufficient material to fill this part.

There is no family drama, no interesting interactions.

Although I would have loved to see the "git gud" arc, how his relationship with Waya functions, and how the family copes with his intense focus on the game of Go.

There is a small interlude with Yuki when he returns to the go club, but is that really enough? I'm not so sure.

Yumi Hotta's "Hikaru no Go: The Young Lions Tournament" (ViZ, 1998) is an engaging manga.

Hikaru learns about the Young Lions Tournament and decides to aim for it. However, he faces a challenge as he needs to be ranked sixteenth in the A league, but he is currently eighteenth in the B league with only three months to go. With the guidance of Sai, Hikaru begins to work on enhancing his focus.

What stands out about this series is that although it follows a similar structure to many manga - fight, increase power, fight, increase power, and so on - it manages to avoid feeling repetitive. Hotta is skilled at varying the events in the rest of the story, making it seem more original than just a series of episodic battles.

Overall, "Hikaru no Go" is a wonderful series that keeps readers hooked with its interesting plot and well-developed characters. It earns a rating of ****.

Hikaru makes some rather remarkable mistakes. However, paradoxically, he grows stronger as a result of them.

There is a subplot that takes us back to his old school club. It appears that this club is finally starting to regain some momentum.

Currently, I have an intense longing to play Go. It's as if an inner force is compelling me. The allure of the game is so strong that I can't help but feel this way.

Hikaru's journey with its mistakes and the progress of the old school club both add an interesting dimension to the overall narrative. It makes me eager to see what will unfold next in this story.

I truly just want to engage in the strategic battle of Go right now. >.<

Vol. 7 of Hikaru No Go delves deeply into Hikaru's growth as an insei, while Akira adapts to the life of a professional go player.

There is also a charming subplot where the middle school go club endeavors to bring Yuki back. Although I would have liked Hikaru's insei classmates to be more fully developed as characters, it is still entertaining to witness Hikaru's successes and failures in this environment.

The volume focuses on Hikaru's unwavering determination to enter the Young Lions Tournament and face off against Akira. However, he must first progress to A class to achieve this goal.

Sai takes a somewhat secondary role in this volume, but we do see him guiding Hikaru and expressing his regret at not being able to physically play go against others.

Obata's artistic style remains impeccable for this series. The characters are vividly expressive, and the go scenes are both dynamic and detailed.

Despite a few flaws, Vol. 7 remains an engaging installment in the Hikaru No Go series, captivating readers with its story and illustrations.

Hikaru is truly inspired by the remarkable opportunity to enter a tournament in which Akira is competing. This motivation gives him the push he needs to get his act together.

He works hard and shows great determination, eventually managing to move from the Insei B-league to the more challenging A-league.

This significant achievement allows him to finally get into the tournament and face off against Akira.

Hikaru's journey is one of growth and perseverance, as he overcomes the obstacles in his path to pursue his goal.

With his newfound position in the A-league, he is ready to prove himself and show that he belongs among the best.

The stage is set for an exciting showdown between Hikaru and Akira, and fans are eagerly anticipating the outcome.

Moving up in the league is an exciting achievement. It means facing tougher opponents and having the opportunity to prove oneself at a higher level. When versing a pro, it can be both intimidating and inspiring. The pro has years of experience and a wealth of skills, but this also presents a great learning opportunity. One can observe their techniques, strategies, and composure under pressure. It is a chance to measure oneself against the best and see where there is room for improvement. Although the odds may seem stacked against the newcomer, with determination and a willingness to learn, anything is possible. This encounter with a pro can serve as a catalyst for growth and development, pushing the player to reach new heights in their game.

I did not have an enjoyable experience with volumes 5 and 6. The direction that the series is taking is not to my liking. I no longer find the insei stuff as interesting as I did when Hikaru was with his school's go club. Fortunately, we were able to witness some of their practices, which was somewhat entertaining. However, as I pointed out in my review of volume 6, I am astonished that Akari is not as close to Hikaru as she was at the beginning of this series. She didn't even know that Hikaru had a tournament the next day and instead told someone from his class to convey a message to him.

Anyway, I found this volume more enjoyable than the previous two. Hikaru is finally showing improvement in go after suffering numerous losses. I just had a greater liking for this one, although I'm not entirely certain why. Maybe it's because of the new developments in Hikaru's go skills or the changes in the story. It could also be that I'm starting to warm up to the insei aspect again. Whatever the reason, I'm looking forward to seeing what the next volume has in store for us.
