Picking up a few months after the events of the previous episode, this eighth volume of Kyoko Hikawa's epic manga fantasy series presents a captivating continuation. Traveling companions Noriko and Izark, on the run from those who seek to exploit their intertwined destinies as The Awakening and The Sky Demon, find themselves participating in a local flower festival as a favor to their hosts in the town they are passing through.

However, when the local seer senses a terrible evil on the move, the two star-crossed lovers are forced to flee again. They soon find themselves confronting an old enemy, the deranged warrior Keimos Lee Goda, who is bent on avenging himself against Izark, the only opponent to have ever defeated him. As the two warriors and swordsmen face off, Noriko is kidnapped by the agents of the evil Lord Rachef, who dispatched Keimos as a distraction.

The tension continues to build in this installment of the series. I'm now more than halfway through, and I was completely engrossed in my reading during this morning's train commute. Keimos, while a good pawn for Rachef, lacks depth as a character in his own right. I couldn't help but wonder if there was more to him than just a desire to fight.

Leaving Keimos aside, the other characters in this volume are complex and fascinating. Izark is evolving, becoming more human through his contact with Noriko, yet also in danger of losing his humanity entirely. Noriko herself is still a bit of a goofball but is increasingly capable of standing up for herself. Rachef, on the other hand, is cool and calculating, leading me to believe that there must be something more beneath his exterior.

I was also pleased to see some of the supporting cast make a brief appearance in a short scene, which makes it clear that they are continuing their quest to unite some of the moderate leaders who have been recently dispossessed as their respective countries have descended into extremism and warfare.

All in all, this is an entertaining episode in an engaging series. And, of course, it ends with a cliffhanger, leaving me eager to get my hands on episode nine as soon as possible.

Not overly fussing on this series. It seems that there is a certain level of nonchalance or lack of excessive concern towards it. However, I suppose I must finish it. Maybe it's a task that needs to be accomplished, or perhaps there is an underlying obligation. Despite not being overly invested, there is still a sense of determination to see it through to the end. It could be that the process itself holds some value, even if the initial enthusiasm wasn't there. Or maybe it's just a matter of personal discipline to complete what has been started. In any case, I'll push forward and do what needs to be done to finish this series.

"Long Hair Don't Care" is a popular phrase that has gained traction in recent years. It represents a carefree and confident attitude towards one's appearance, specifically regarding long hair.

Soobie, ten days to read a manga?! What's happening to you?

I don't know. I've been so exhausted lately that I find it very difficult to sit down and read a manga like From Far Away. Don't get me wrong: this is a beautiful manga with fantastic characters and a great storyline. But I can't seem to be able to read it.

At the beginning, the two protagonists are getting used to their feelings for each other and they're so cute. They share those sweet moments that make you smile. But soon after that, enemies are lurking everywhere. They're trying to awake the Sky Demon and they don't hesitate when it comes to killing those poor Kimos. Sigh! Animal abuse at its best! It really makes you feel bad for those innocent creatures.

Another reason why this manga is so engaging is Noriko. Sometimes she's just your typical, defenseless Japanese girl. But sometimes she mans up and tries to fight the enemies by herself. She shows great courage and determination. She's funny too, with her little quirks and remarks. But I love strong female characters like her who can hold their own in a tough situation.

On to volume 9. I'm curious to see what will happen next in the story. Will the protagonists be able to overcome the challenges and defeat the enemies? Only time will tell.
