Haviland Tuf is a rather large, vegan, cat owner, former space trader who sees himself as an ecological engineer and a biological warfare expert. We are reading about his interesting adventures in the depths of space.

He is the captain of a seed ship that survived the fragmented Federal Empire a thousand years ago. This strange man manages to both delight the reader and the ones he helps as much as he confounds them. He definitely confounded me. Yes, he is indeed a very interesting character. Some of the stories were interesting and engaging, but overall, I can't say that I really loved the book. For me, it was just too absurd.

Perhaps others will find more enjoyment in the unique world and characters that the author has created. However, for my personal taste, the level of absurdity was a bit too high. But that doesn't mean that the book doesn't have its merits. The concept is original, and the author's imagination is truly remarkable. It's just that it didn't quite hit the mark for me.

Nevertheless, I would still recommend this book to those who enjoy science fiction with a touch of the strange and the absurd. It might just be the perfect read for them.

Super fun!

Mad easy!

Dope story about ecological engineering. Don't look for anything crazy deep here. It's just a light-hearted and enjoyable account. The first and last stories are the strongest in my opinion (IMO). They really capture the essence and excitement of ecological engineering. You'll be entertained from start to finish. It's a great read for those who are interested in learning about this fascinating field in a fun and accessible way. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the dope story about ecological engineering!

No need to overthink it. Just let the story unfold and have a great time.

This is an extremely pleasant and beautiful book, perhaps the best one by Martin that I have read so far. (Simeon, here is a high-quality conceptual collection for you, not like that one!) It is a science fiction with a very subtle humor and funny moments. In it, the main hero gets involved in different adventures, each of which is a separate story. Get to know Tuff - a two-and-a-half-meter-tall, thick-skinned, vegetarian who loves to eat, drink beer and wine, and above all, his huge love is his cats that roam all over the ship. Tuff is educated, cultured, intelligent and always tries to do good first and foremost - his thirty-kilometer-long ship is capable of solving the problems of entire planets... Or else destroy them if you are stupid and aggressive enough. I highly, highly recommend it.

It offers a unique and engaging reading experience that combines elements of science fiction, humor, and adventure. The character of Tuff is well-developed and adds a lot of charm to the story. The different adventures he embarks on keep the reader entertained and on the edge of their seat. Whether it's solving planetary problems or dealing with his mischievous cats, Tuff always manages to find a way.

Overall, this book is a must-read for fans of science fiction and anyone looking for an enjoyable and thought-provoking read. It will take you on a journey through space and introduce you to a world full of interesting characters and exciting events. So, don't miss out on this amazing book and give it a try today!

This book truly has a significant identity problem, and I found myself grappling with it from start to finish. While Tuf can be rather charming in his own way, I simply don't have a liking for him. Moreover, I find myself in disagreement with him on numerous issues. One of the most prominent among them is his thoughts on cats.

This was a book that I read. It wasn't a terrible read, but at the same time, I don't really feel that I liked it either. It's a rather strange conundrum. And yet, for some reason, I just can't bring myself to give it less than 4 stars. You can make of that whatever you wish. It's as if there's something about this book that keeps pulling me in, despite my reservations about the main character and some of the ideas presented. Maybe it's the unique setting or the overall narrative structure. I'm not entirely sure. But one thing is for certain, this book has left a lasting impression on me, even if I'm not completely sure how I feel about it.

Can someone become a god?

Should someone make decisions for all those who don't make an important decision?

Too many questions that always come back to the same base.

These are profound and thought-provoking inquiries that have intrigued humanity throughout the ages.

The idea of becoming a god challenges our understanding of the limitations of human nature and the boundaries between the mortal and the divine.

On the other hand, the question of whether one should make decisions for others raises ethical and moral dilemmas.

Do we have the right to impose our will on those who are unable or unwilling to make a choice?

These questions force us to examine our beliefs, values, and the role we play in society.

They also remind us that there are no easy answers and that we must continue to explore and question in order to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

I wanted to read Martin's science fiction, and I thought that "The Voyages of Tuf" was a good way to start.

The book is a collection of seven stories, each of which tells an adventure of this very peculiar human being. He is completely hairless, extremely tall and corpulent, has an overly pompous way of speaking (some would call him pedantic), and adores cats.

Yes, it is a book full of cats. In all the stories, the cats are important in one way or another, and it will delight the lovers of felines.

I think I can't choose a favorite story because they all have their charm, and Martin knows how to hook you and maintain the intrigue of how Tuf will solve such and such a situation. However, if I had to choose one, I think it would be "Guardians". I love the problem it poses and how Tuf finally finds the solution. Besides, it made my imagination soar to quite high levels because of the struggle that takes place on the planet Namor.

We all know that Martin's magnum opus is "A Song of Ice and Fire", but for now, it has been worth reading one of his books of another genre.

The first stories I liked the most and the last ones the least. Probably the novelty value wore off evenly because Tuf used a rather similar method and in addition, his ever-growing messiah complex also began to bother me a bit. Sometimes it also felt that he didn't make the worlds better anymore but rather more broken. Take the case of the 40 billion castrations where I felt that Tuf created a very serious demographic crisis and there was also a doubt whether something more ingenious could have been done instead of this rather predictable move. It's a pity about the characters - in the future galaxy there wouldn't be a single likable person left anymore and I'm not even talking so much about Tuf here - his Poirot-like eccentricity even fit here - but all those remaining. Overall, however, it was a really good read, so there is no doubt about the rating.

It seems that the author's writing style has both its strengths and weaknesses. On one hand, the stories are engaging and full of interesting concepts. The idea of Tuf and his unique methods of dealing with various problems is quite fascinating. However, on the other hand, the repetition of certain elements and the overemphasis on Tuf's messiah complex can become a bit tiresome after a while.

Despite these flaws, I still enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others who are interested in science fiction. It offers a different perspective on the future and makes you think about the consequences of our actions. Maybe in the next installment, the author could try to introduce more variety and develop the other characters more fully to make the story even more engaging.

Tuf Voyaging is a captivating series of short stories. At its core is one central figure, Haviland Tuf. After discovering an ancient and abandoned ecological warship from Old Earth, he becomes a self-taught ecological engineer.

Tuf presents himself as an altruistic and charitable individual, professing a desire to assist worlds in need. Yet, before offering any help, he invariably strikes extremely advantageous financial deals. This, combined with the fact that everyone either physically threatens him or attempts to seize his ship to fulfill their own wants, makes for a complex and engaging narrative.

These are indeed old stories by GRRM. Comparing this collection to Game of Thrones is simply not appropriate as they are in different leagues. The only other Martin story I've read is Fevre Dream, and I found it more to my liking. It's worth noting that some of these stories are also included in Martin's Dream Songs collection.

Overall, Tuf Voyaging offers a unique and interesting exploration of themes such as altruism, self-interest, and the lengths people will go to in order to achieve their goals. While it may not reach the same heights as some of Martin's more famous works, it still has its own charm and appeal.

Martin's writing is as engaging as ever, drawing the reader into each story and making them care about the characters and the issues at hand. The science fiction elements are well-developed and add an exciting layer to the narratives. Whether you're a fan of science fiction or just looking for a good read, this book is definitely worth checking out.

Overall, I was extremely impressed with this collection of stories and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something different and thought-provoking. It's a great addition to Martin's already impressive body of work.

Fantastikos mėgėjams sueis. It is a very interesting, engaging and uncomplicated book composed of the individual adventures of the main character. It reads like a great Netflix series.

Each chapter presents a new and exciting situation that keeps the reader hooked from start to finish. The author has done a great job of creating a vivid and imaginative world that is easy to get lost in.

However, the ending seems a bit unfinished. It's as if the author got tired and simply said "enough" and ended the book like that

Finished Tuf Voyaging by GRRM.

I have just completed reading Tuf Voyaging by GRRM, and I must say that I have quite a mixed opinion about it. On one hand, I really liked these stories. The universe that GRRM has created is extremely complex and fascinating. There are numerous different planets, each with its own unique culture and characteristics. It makes me eager to explore more about this vast and diverse world.

However, on the other hand, I'm not entirely sure if I should like these stories. If we take a closer look at the main character, Tuf, he is not a particularly nice person. His actions often cause more problems than they solve. He is arrogant, patronizing, and sarcastic, and seems to care little about any living creature in the universe, except for his beloved cats or those who pay him handsomely.

The moral of each story also seems to imply that the problems faced by the characters are a result of their own stupidity and lack of common sense. For example, the people of S'uthlam would be better off if they controlled their reproduction, the people of Lyronica are simply greedy, and the people of Namor behave in a typical colonialist manner.

Nevertheless, despite these flaws, the stories are still enjoyable to read. Tuf's arrogance and sarcasm add a certain charm to the narrative, making him a memorable and entertaining character. And at least he is kind to his cats, which gives him a redeeming quality.

All in all, I would rate Tuf Voyaging an 8/10. It's a good read for any GRRM fan, but it's not without its flaws.

"A culture with cats is richer and more human"

We accompany Haviland Tuf on different adventures after obtaining the Ark, a spaceship capable of doing ecological engineering and bringing back to life extinct beings or those from other planets. Throughout several stories, Tuf will use the Ark as a means of life and sustenance, always accompanied by his beloved cats.

In the realm of science fiction, George Martin gifts us with space adventures featuring an unforgettable protagonist. Calm, intelligent, and of a composed disposition, Tuf stands out for debating with his opponents from a position of respect yet with a certain edge. His interactions with Mune are among the best in the book, a constant give and take.

Although the descriptions of some beings are somewhat short, that is overshadowed by the numerous planets and beings that are shown to us. Many of Tuf's problems involve the use of logic and allow the reader to also seek the simplest solution for them, which will not always be the most expected. And in addition, we have cats in all the stories, participating to a greater or lesser extent, although that makes us suffer about what might happen to them. And as a finishing touch, a message of ecology, tolerance, and respect for animals and the environment.

A well-rounded read for those who seek space travels, that's for sure, with a lot of text.
