Luciano De Crescenzo tells the story of the first philosophers. He does it with a style that we could define as colloquial.

This book is absolutely within the reach of everyone. It is a great merit for the author who has shown to know the subject so well as to make it simple.

Luciano De Crescenzo's approach to presenting the ideas and lives of the first philosophers is refreshing. His colloquial style makes the complex world of philosophy accessible to a wide audience.

The book doesn't require prior knowledge of philosophy, yet it manages to convey the essence and significance of the first philosophers' thoughts.

The author's ability to simplify the subject matter is truly remarkable. He presents the ideas in a clear and engaging way, making it easy for readers to understand and appreciate the contributions of the first philosophers.

Overall, this book is a great introduction to the world of philosophy and a must-read for anyone interested in learning about the roots of Western thought.

This is by far the best and most uproariously funny introduction to the pre-Socratics that I have come across in my more than 30 years of delving into Greek philosophy. It is an older publication, but it is highly recommended without a doubt.

Once you start reading it, you will find yourself completely engaged and entertained. There is no way you will be disappointed or bored. The author has managed to present the complex and often晦涩的 ideas of the pre-Socratics in a light-hearted and accessible manner.

It is a refreshing change from the more traditional and academic approaches. Whether you are a seasoned scholar or a beginner in the field of Greek philosophy, this introduction is sure to provide you with a new and enjoyable perspective.

So, don't hesitate to pick up this gem of a book and embark on a journey through the fascinating world of the pre-Socratics.

I was seeking a divulgative work on the history of philosophy.

This one is all too much of that. It has interludes on Neapolitan culture in the style of De Crescenzo and a bit too much emphasis on the picturesque anecdotes, which end up trivializing the truly philosophical part. The references to the current events of when the book was written (the 1980s), such as Craxi, Andreotti, etc., have aged poorly, but perhaps for that reason they are interesting.

Overall, it's a somewhat flawed but still engaging attempt at presenting the history of philosophy in an accessible way. The combination of different elements makes it a unique read, even if it doesn't always succeed in its goals.

Maybe it could have benefited from a more focused approach on the philosophical ideas themselves, rather than getting sidetracked by the other aspects. However, it does manage to capture the reader's attention and make them think about the connections between philosophy and the wider world.

This book offers a truly remarkable and highly personable introduction to pre-socratic philosophy.

Overall, its organization, maps, style, and contents are all outstanding. De Crescenzo doesn't hold back on using humor, nor does he shy away from presenting contemporary accounts of ideas that are related to those discussed in the historical chapters. Moreover, he is not afraid to express his own views.

He has an extraordinary ability to set the stage effectively. And although this is an introduction for the layperson, the comments and claims are clearly sourced, and De Crescenzo makes a special effort to disclose when the accounts are contradictory or incomplete.

However, there is only one negative aspect. I noticed a current of misogyny in some of his personal asides. This is rather disappointing as it detracts from the overall value of the book.

Despite this flaw, the book still provides a valuable and engaging exploration of pre-socratic philosophy.

"Molti studiano come allungare la vita, quando invece bisognerebbe allargarla!" This profound statement challenges our traditional perception of life. Instead of simply focusing on lengthening the number of years we live, we should strive to expand the quality and breadth of our experiences.

Allungare la vita often emphasizes on physical health and longevity. We engage in various activities like exercise, proper diet, and taking supplements to ensure our bodies remain in good condition for a longer period. However, allargarla goes beyond the physical aspect. It means opening ourselves up to new opportunities, learning new skills, traveling to different places, and building meaningful relationships.

By allargarla, we enrich our lives with diverse experiences that bring joy, fulfillment, and a sense of purpose. We step out of our comfort zones and embrace the unknown, which helps us grow as individuals. So, let us not just focus on allungare la vita but also make a conscious effort to allargarla and truly live a life without limits.

It made me question everything I thought I knew and led me on a journey of self-discovery and intellectual growth. Thanks to this book, I have developed a deep love and appreciation for philosophy and continue to explore its many branches and ideas. I will always be grateful for the impact it has had on my life.

Bignamino I is not meant to replace the text of the history of philosophy but rather as a review or a quick reference text. Sometimes argumentative and often irreverent, it is also a less stuffy way to approach certain topics for readers who are intimidated by the professor's italicized and intimidating approach. Naturally, it is opposed, slandered, and criticized by those who too often forget that while it is true that Abbagnano's Dictionary of Philosophy and Geymonat's History of Philosophical and Scientific Thought are better made, but who has them at home? (In doubt, it is better to buy the Garzantina edition).

This work offers a unique perspective on philosophy, presenting ideas in a way that is accessible and engaging. It can be a valuable resource for students and enthusiasts alike, providing a different take on the subject matter. However, it is important to note that it should not be relied upon as the sole source of information.

Despite its flaws, Bignamino I has its place in the world of philosophy. It challenges readers to think differently and encourages them to explore new ideas. Whether used as a supplement to other texts or as a standalone work, it can offer valuable insights and perspectives.

It has been a lot of fun. That's all there is to say.

However, to expand on this, we can explore what made it so enjoyable. Maybe it was a particular activity, like playing a game with friends or going on an adventure. Or perhaps it was the company we kept, the people who made us laugh and feel good.

Whatever the reason, having fun is an important part of life. It helps us relax, reduces stress, and makes us more positive. So, the next time you have the opportunity to do something that makes you happy, don't hesitate. Go for it and enjoy the moment!
